My 2013 Panda 4x4 with 2500 miles on the clock has just started with quiet squealing sound, most noticeable when slowing down but without the brakes applied. Sounds like its coming from the back of the car. Any ideas? Thanks in anticipation.

Yes, it's the rear brake pads. Mine does it too on the passenger side.
apply your handbrake lightly when the noise occurs and you'll see if it goes away.
I also get awful squealing whilst reversing and it yelps when I brake.

The brakes need cleaning. I'm swapping back to my winter tyres this weekend so I'll see if i can cure it
whilst the wheels are off.

This seems to be similar to the rear brake squeal that affects the 100HP. Mine never suffered from it, and my 4x4 TA doesn't either; I think mine avoid the problem because my car is parked in the garage with the handbrake off except when it's actually being driven around.

Thanks for the advice. My local dealer had a look and advised either a brake clean or some firm braking to see if it disappears!

"some firm braking to see if it disappears"

Whether on my motorcycle or in my car I take a pride in using my brakes as little as possible, relying upon anticipation and engine braking when available, as advised by advanced driving techniques. Surely it is disingenuous of manufacturers to suggest that enthusiastic brake application is required to eliminate weird brake behaviour.
Maybe I should try an emergency stop on a greasy downhill bend during twilight over fallen leaves in sub-zero conditions, to see if my ABS, ESP, GBH, whatever, actually works!
