On a panel only, yes with care. On a whole car No... especially if the car is outside or in a dusty garage. Best you could hope for is average with hours of rubbing down & polishing. Have you considered mopping the whole car?
Using a lubricant like water & a cutting compound you can cut the top layer of paint off & reveal fresher paint. You do have to take care though, not to burn the paint with friction.

You could try it on the current paint without spraying it first... mop it then polish it up after a good wash. See how it comes up. Depends what finish you are after. If it doesnt come up & you insist on spraying it with cans I'd wait a week or two for the paint to harden... longer if the weather isnt dry warm & sunny.
No good mopping,the car's in a mess(strada 105tc mk1) tailgate red,quater panel cream,doors grey, bonnet blue,front panels rusty black bit of a project lol.
Ive done a few resprays on parts of panels and whole panels using aerosols. It has taken me a lot of practice, patients, stress and money in developing techniques I find that work and I can now get fairly good results. However you will never get the depth and consistency as you do from a spray gun using proper paint and 2k lacquer. Saying this though I seem to be the only person that can notice it as my family cant tell and the cars that Ive sold have never raised any questions.
