What are the differences in suspension components between 2000-on (mpi) Sporting and Non-Sporting versions.
Obviously the springs are different, but what about dampers, wishbones, rear-arms?

the only other difference beside springs will be. if the non sporting is not power assisted steering they have slightly different topmounts. other than that they are essentially yhr same.

Well, my daughter '03 non-Sporting has EPS and also a front ARB, so would be the same as a Sporting then, apart from the springs? I find the car a bit 'floaty' at speeds above 50mph - and it rolls a fair bit corners. Do you think a swap to Sporting springs would improve matters by much? The existing shocks and suspension components are in good shape and I don't want to lower the car significantly.

the -20mm that sporting suspension will give you will reduce body roll a fair bit.

Think 'a fair bit' is a bit of a loose statement, yes it will reduce body roll, but maybe not as much as you might anticipate and you will still probably feel it anyway i bet, it is only -20mm and that isnt a lot, you can get better kits out there but anything is better than nothing at all

One other change is although they are both the same size on each car (13'') if you upgrade to 14'' alloys - maybe the 14'' seicento abarth alloys as an example, you will also reduce body roll also

But aside from the springs thats really it

Remember all changes need to be declared etc even if it is fiat OEM parts

Hi

I think Fiat say if you have steels and fit the wider sporting aluminium you should as well lower the car. Think this is to make the turn in more repeatable. Not doing both would make an non homolgulated combination, perhaps a problam after an accident even if you had declared.

The roll bar is desirable as well same reason.

Simpler buying a sporting, or driving slower.

My Sei S was terrifying in corners with the standard wheels and suspension. If you lose grip mid corner it's very difficult to recover. For your daughter's safety I would at least put some sporting springs on it.

I put some -40mm (-20 over sporting) springs onto mine with Abarth alloys and it's now predictable with much less roll. Spacers on the front help too.

I'd either buy some rust free second hand sporting springs or get some mild drop aftermarket springs. If you buy new sporting springs, they'll probably sit higher than your current ones for a year or two...

Thanks for the info. Very useful.

Any suggestions for aftermarket springs that give a mild drop (say 30mm from standard non-sporting springs)?

The Sporting suspension is ok on B roads, but in town it is difficult to avoid grounding it, on speed bumps and in council car parks...

You bottoming out on standard sporting suspension ~?

I think Bilstein do a kit where they use standard shocks and lowering springs. So the ride would still be comfortable.

Hi Ming

Yes if I dont pay attention and either creep slowly or veer, bang crunch, lots of the suspension is new, & standard, except for springs and struts at front.

We have lots of lumps and bumps down South.

I notice some of the other 'lowered' people drive the same way, so it is ot just me.

P.S. the auto hits the road, cause of lack of ground clearance, the suspension is ok and 'comfy'.

With some of the pot holes i seen, it is definitly possible to bottom out! Just need to drive a drunk person to avoid them :).

Hi Ming

Yea a good fraction of the sleeping police men have battle scars fron grounding vehicles.

Been pulled by plod for driving too slowly... they ask when did you buy the auto sir? Cause they know the answer from their database...
