I have just got an SPL X 350 sub (poor I know but it was free from a friend of a friend) and have tried linking it up to my head-unit (Pioneer DEH7000MP) through the pre-out at the rear of the headunit. I know that for best results I should wire it through an amp. But will it work by simply wiring it straight into the pre-out in the headunit. I will eventually buy a decent sub and amp but right now I just wanna have a bit more oommmph until then but don't wanna spend hours setting up amps etc just to rip it out again soon.

I tried wiring it up via the pre-out but nothing from the sub at all.

Anyone have the DEH7000MP and know how to do this

Help greatly appriciated

Neil.

No it will not work. You cannot wire a pre-out straight into a speaker. The idea behind a pre-out is that the signal being sent is very weak but very high quality. The amp will then take this signal and amplify it. You could try and run your sub off two channels but it will not sound good. Amps are pretty cheap.

You also need an amp to cut off the mid and treble fequencies so you just get the bass!!!, subs dont like vocals!! (n)
