Hi, hope one of you guys can give me some advice etc on what is a pisser of a job. The problem is this, my 1998 Seicento SX has been making a clonking noise when changing gear, or when you power on or power off. It has been diagnosed as a possible collapse of a needle bearing on the driveshaft spider. They also say that the gear box should be stripped before replacing the spider thing just incase anything has gone in the box which could jam it leading to what could be a nasty accident.

Thank you in advance,

Maximum

Might be dumb suggestion but if only doing on powering up and down could it not be a very bad engine/gearbox mount i know mine was when i powered on/off or even a lower arm but hey i might be completly off track here! lol

I'd go with the mount too, power on = engine and box flexing, no mount = clunk same for power off.

£13 bucks for the mount and an hour to change including tea break.

Look underneath if the mount is hanging out it should be easy to spot.

Rear gearbox mount was the first thing we replaced, but made no difference at all.

Thanks for the advice anyway.

Hi,
I know this might sound stupid but, are the front wheel bolts done up properly, you get a similar sort of clunk when they're loose........

Thanks
