Hi

About 9 days ago my uno fire 1100's gearbox got damaged beyond repair (went over a bump and the CVjoint inners took out several pieces of my gearbox, casing etc) anyways after making a substantial loan from my boss i got another 1 and had it reconned (no cash 4 a new 1) and did as much as possible 2 the rest of the car with the change (clutch plate, missing and damaged dust covers, damaged mirror, tie rod rack ends etcetcetc the list goes on and on)

now when i try to start it i get 1 single clinking noise (like when the starter motor turns but jus one "ding") and then it stops

battery fine, all the earth straps/cables on and everythin else mentioned in the haynes.

any suggestions?

also what is that shortcut trick with the starter motor on the battery 2 test it?

thanks in advance

Sean

the started solenoid signal if you like is a thin gauge cable that engauges athe motor power and dive gear. Wire the thin cable to a switch or hold the cable onto the positive, this acts like turning the key, dont hard wirre it, just make it to test. But does sound like a poor connection are all the earth point clean, are terminals clean. Maybe the solenoid is stuck and wont retract from the or go to the flywheel.

Ok  i have had some advice from a friend of mine on troubleshooting

this is what he suggested i do:

Put car in2 gear
Press clutch pedal down
try 2 push the car
Then also with car in gear and clutch pedal down try to turn the engine (using the nut on the bottom of the cambelt where the fanbelt's pulley is)

this way i cannot turn the engine or push the car!

what i have changed in these areas is the cambelt, gearbox (4 reconned one) and the clutch plate.

 LOL what have i done wrong? :bang: .

thanks 4 helping

is it ok if i turn my last question(s) in2 a new thread ?

also it does move in neutral

If the engine won't turn, it sounds horribly like a broken cambelt; valves contacting pistons. This isn't supposed to happen with the 1.0L FIRE engines... I don't know about the 1108 that I guess you have. I think you're going to need to take the cylinder head off. But first take off the belt cover and check the cam timing again.

Can you turn the cam pulley with a 19mm socket on its centre bolt?

I don't think this has anything to do with your gearbox; in 'neutral' you should always be able to turn the engine with a socket on the crankshaft pulley like your friend suggested.

While the gearbox was off I replaced the cam belt and tensioner bearing for good measure and I turned the engine a good couple of times (to make sure everything is still lined up) before putting the gearbox back on.

With the cam belt off the camshaft moves fine so I’m dead sure that the valves are not touching (and no with an 1108 it should not be able 2 anyway).

when the gearbox is off I know everything on the engine is fine.

From being able to push the car in neutral I know that the gearbox is fine (to my knowledge it should not be able to move at all if something in the gearbox is seized).

Thanks to this thread https://www.fiatforum.com/uno-guides/43629-clutch-change-uno-ie-start.html?highlight=gearbox+removal and several searches as well as advice from friends etc, I have deducted it can only be a problem on the new clutch kit or new slave cylinder I have installed, or more precisely with the way I installed it. (Elementary dear Watson, I Hope!)

I’m going to be removing the gearbox (again) over the next few days and this coming weekend plan to get my old girl moving again, so if anyone has any advice on what I may have done wrong please yell.

Please correct me if I’m wrong in any of my previous statements.

Thank You And Best Regards

Sean.

I found the problem with the sticking the teeth from the gearbox were pressed into the teeth on the friction plate instead of bieng meshed in between
