Technical Speedo Transducer

Hi. I have a Weekend ELX. I noticed yesterday that my speedo had stopped working although it was fine when I set off. I spoke to my local garage this morning and he said that he is 95% certain that it is the transducer. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a big job or is one that can be done at home. I recently forked out a thousand pounds for work at the same garage and I think he has had enough of my money haha. If it can be done at home does anyone have any tips.

its easy, you simply replace a small part on the gearbox. use a scrapyard part and it will be fixed for £5.
