OK... so I'm planning on buying some alloys for my punto, they're 14" as opposed to the 13" steelies i already have. The question is, would i need the speedo reset in any way due to the size of the wheels? the alloys i'm planning on buying have 175/65R 14 sized tyres (i think anyway?)

I know this may seem a bit cautious, but i've only had my license 2 weeks now and would like to keep within the law... (y)

Cheers

I have 14'' on my car as opposed to 13'' as standard and the speedo is out by 5mph

No need for a callibaration in my opinion :)

Will have to check on that, but I do believe they're smaller than the tyres on the alloys. I think my speedo is out by about 3-4mph anyway... ehh... i suppose if i get caught speeding it's my own fault :p:eek:

OK, had a look, my current tyres are 165/65/13R

Moving up to 175/65/14R... will I need to do anything? I seriously want to avoid speeding tickets. I'll have to have a look tomorrow as we have a flashy "reduce your speed" sign in the village, so i'll go past that with the alloys on and see what happens..

The easiest way to check is to use the Police markings on some major roads. They use them to check calibration of their speedos. If you give your local traffic police up they will tell you where they are.
Last year we had a few owners of different vehicles complaining about speedos reading low and them getting speeding tickets, what were Fiat going to do about it?????
We were able to prove that all the speedos were actually reading high and they were all within the 10% tolerance allowed. (Speedos must read the correct speed or upto 10% over, they must not read under.)
From memory we did three passes at 30mph, 40mph, 50mph, and 60 mph and took the average time over a measured half mile. You can then work out the correct figures and also work out the accuracy of your speedo.
