Technical speedo problem

hello i got a mk1 1.2 auto
and the prob is that when driving nomarly the needle will go round to max then back and stops at 20mph
and sometimes most recantly when going faster on moterway it goes from 0-120 back and forth and goes on for long time
anyone have any ideas wat could be the cause??

probably faulty speed sensor
of course its worth trying another speedo head if you have one or checking the plug on the back for tightness

Doesn't the Mk1 have a cable?

Knackered cable or speed sensor (or wiring to the speed sensor) would be my best guess.

mk1 electronic speedo so i could be a faulty speed sensor

whre would i find this speed sensor ?
is it an easy fi for a novice to do?

See into Guide section linked here onto top blue line of FF page, find Punto guide and I think onto 3rd page of gide topics, you will find gude: Where is what onto 1.2 engine, so look onto gearbox pic and you will see speed sensor on back side of gearbox. First check connectors and cable and give him good cleaning. this place is wery exposed to water and dust. Hope that simple cleaning conector will fix this prob. . .

when i do bang it it resets to normal
