Speedo Not Working

New here, so I hope I am posting in the correct place. My Dad has a 2002 Punto. His engine more or less blew up a couple of months ago and we sourced another engine and my husband put it in, all fine. Problem is,, the speedo doesn't work. We spoke to a mechanic who said it was the speed sensor (that's on the gearbox) so we got a second hand one, but that didn't work either. Took it to a garage who put it onto the computer and said again it was the speedo sensor, so we bought a new one. Put that on and speedo still doesn't work. Any idea what the problem could be please?

does mileage go up?

No as the speedo isn't working the mileage isn't changing. The rest of the clocks on the dashboard are working, just not the speedo

Chances are that -- at least -- one of the sensors/senders is working, but that there's an electrical fault somewhere else in the circuit.

when engine fitted did you use the loom with your car or loom that came with replacement engine

as it was said check the wires from the sensor to the ECU, i'm not sure,.. but i think the speed info is sent to the dash from the ecu through the CAN network
