Got caught today, what really annoys me is despite coming up with many excuses in my head i was doing it and was completely guilty!

61 in a 40, i was just past the 60 sign and you know what it's like, just take your foot off the gas and wait for the speed to drop off. He got my speed from nearly a kilometer away, i didn't see him until far too late!

Be careful kids!

So easily done, not nice.

bad luck, so did he just give you a talking to or do you get the points?

he asked if i already had points as that alters how they deal with you. As i do not have points already i got 3 points and a £60 fine, i wasn't going to argue with that what with the speed he clocked me at. If i had been doing 66 i would have gone to court.

As they were there to "raise awareness" of the regular speeding on that road they offer a scheme for repeat offenders where you can have the points and fine or go on a training day where they "change your attitude towards driving".

So why didn't you take the training course ?

I never got offered this course :(

Speeding is wrong and I would never despute the fact of me being in the wrong.

I do think the police can be either to strict or not strict enough in some cases.

My first set I was in a 30 and approaching a 40mph. I started speeding up just before the 40mph sign. Didn't realise the motorbike behind me was undercover. Caught me at 42.

Next set was on the motorway following traffic. Didn't realise my speed but was 90.2mph. What bothers me with this one though is that there were 4 cars and he picked me out of the 4. Also, he did me yet I was doing 90.2 and one of the other cars overtook me.

Not too bad for the speed you were clocked at my mate in middlesbrough very similar situation to busy watching his kids bickering in the back !clocked at 55 in a 30 he got 3 pts £80 fine and a real ticking off for not watching where he was going. As in life my friend we are never to old to learn from our mistakes.

I'd say you and Richard's mate are both lucky !!

Usually, if you're caught doing 50% more than the limit you get done on the next tier of fixed penalties. 3LEP's and £60/£80 is very fortunate. A friend of mine got caught doing 47 in a 30 and got 6 points plus fine !

i didn't get ofdfered the course as im not a repeat offender... yet...

the fine is not important, its the points that is the killer. They were "raising awareness" which is why i think i got away 'lightly'

sorry to hear that Al, i know i have been fortunate as many of you will vouch with my driving not have got any points thus far.

the course isnt offered all over the country yet, as as far as im aware it isnt available. my Dad is going to be one of the 'instructors' for the course in essex and also for the met area, plus whatever else he can get as it is quickly expanding. it is for repeat offenders as Al said, so unless you get caught on a regular basis as to speak its unlikely you will be offered the course

I wont start any arguement about speeding, but speed does kill people and a 40 mph zone must be at least semi built up area or going through/very close to one.

But some speed limits are plain daft, like the Beccles bypass, wide road, 1 long sweeping bend and the whole road has a 50 limit... wtf?

Tough call on the points though, but to warn all of you (apart from MyHLX as he isnt interested and has said that none of you are also, but here goes anyway) there are so many RTCs going on at the moment, many fatal. In the last 2 weeks or so it's been mental with minor and major RTCs so please keep this in mind.
and please no comments about rights and wrongs of police, cameras and speeding, we know where that ends up.

Sorry to hear that - very unfortunate.

I'm going to be more careful now about the easing off the gas pedal for speed to decrease!

the distance they got me from amazed me, a friend says he got done from 2kM away! Time to stick to bendy roads! Although then you haven't got the oppertunity to go as fast so that defeats my arguement ;)

must agree with you, its what many people do, hit the lower speed limit zone and decrease speed, it's a bit petty getting you just inside the new limit.

I was done once for leaving the engine running on my car while I posted a letter at a bank on the way to work at 4am. A policeman appeared from nowhere and said i had abandoned my vehicle and gave me an on the spot fine of 40 quid. I was never anymore than 2 meters away from my car, it was bitterly cold so I left the engine and heater on. I had to wait for a police car to arrive to issue a ticket, missed my lift to work (working in London at the time, communting from Lowestoft for 1 month contract)thus losing a days pay too!

I didnt even know it was an offince to leave the engine running with no one in the car.

"I didnt even know it was an offince to leave the engine running with no one in the car."

Yep. its known as 'quitting' It's bascially an offence to leave the engine running when there is no one qualified to drive the vehilce" As I understand it tho they don't neccessarily have to have insurance for the vehicle or be sitting in the drivers seat. They do however need to hold a full licence for that type of vehicle.

I've seen a n officer issue a ticket for that offence and when the guy concerned replied "This is a f***ing joke this is" he got himself arrested for a public order offence. So folks be careful how you react when being given the tickets!

The above arrest was totally justified in the situation i add. Before anyone says how rediculously harsh that is and how coppers are total gits. The guy was being a complete idiot and was causing a very tense situation at a nearby RTC (he'd got out of his car to come and have a nose into what was going on) to become increasingly heated and problematic and he really needed to be removed from the location.

Going back to soemthing someone said earlier about being clocked on the motorway and was just following traffic. This is the kind of speeding i think is a realy issue these days. I know when I'm driving on the motorway i feel i shouldnt drive in the outside lane unless im doing 85+ I hate to speed as i'm well aware of the danger and risk to life caused, especially on motorways where at those speeds things go very bad very quick and so rarely use the outside lane, but its so intimidating when you've got some arse in his beamer right up behing you when you are still doing 15mph over the limit yourself.

speeding

To true about tail ending, There is always somebody going faster than you. The BMW will probably get a Porche on his tail

in regards to the engine running thing, i have the intelli start system on my alarm which means no keys and a locked car if i want but the engine still running. where would i stand with that?

The police are part of the problem not the solution. I advocate better driver self discipline to comply with the law then we wouldn't need them as they are jobs worth gits who apply the law as it suits them. The only thing the vast majority of them catch is a cold or a dose of amnesia when brought to book. Any situation which requires hard work or brain power and they are left totally flummoxed.
