While I was "flying" down the road yesterday (i.e., 10 mph over the limit), I passed over a bridge only to find a a cop with a laser gun on the other side laying in wait.

The cop pulled me over, walked up to the car, and with that classic patronizing smirk we all know and love, asked, "What's your hurry?"

To which I replied, "I'm late for work."

"Oh yeah," said the cop, "what do you do?"

"I'm a rectum stretcher," I responded.

The cop was stammered, "A what? A rectum stretcher? And just what does a rectum stretcher do?"
"Well," I said, "I start by inserting one finger, then I work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in I work side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch, until it's about 6 foot wide."

"And just what the hell do you do with a 6 foot asshole?"

To which I politely replied, "You give him a laser gun and park him behind a bridge....."

I am NOT putting my name to this!!!!!!!

Hi guys,

Just got a speeding ticket thru' 4 being caught doing 92mph on the A11.
The thing of the matter is that I knew I'd get this ticket but I'm a little fuzzy about the law because this camera was a mobile camera used by Suffolk Police. What I'm not clear on is this thing about camera's being yellow and clearly visible. U c, this camera was stuck BEHIND a dark blue unmarked police Escort van which they use 4 this purpose, but the camera, albeit yellow was only visible after passing the van. I caught a glimpse of yellow as I went by and saw the flashes in my wing mirror.
What I need 2 know is whether I can dispute the fine (3 points & £60) due 2 the "hidden" camera and can I request copies of the pictures b4 I send my money in ?

Any help on getting off this fine would b greatly appreciated, because even tho' I have a clean licence (well, until now that is !) 3 points will load my insurance on my HGT and cash is strapped ! ;)

Thanx in advance,

Rob.

Nope

Sorry mate, your done. If you want to stump up £500 in solicitors fess and YOU are willing to go to court then protest it, but to be honest you havent got a case. They dont LEGALLY have to be visable.

Take the £60 and be done.

Sorry

Re: Nope

Nigel is right.
Only FIXED speed camera have to be visable (i.e. yellow and not hidden) under the law.
Mobile ones can be anywhere and unlike fixed ones police are not obliged to put up "Speed Camera" signs on the road.
I got done with some b@stard hidden behind a tree - oh well !

And go to fighting the ticket... interesting...
Extract....

· Driver receives Notice of Intended Prosecution.

The driver must complete all relevant sections on the form and return it to the sender.

· The driver may later receive a fixed penalty ticket accompanied by a 'Conditional Offer' to pay a fixed penalty fine and/or attend a 'Speed Awareness Course' in place of penalty points.

The driver writes a letter to the authority requesting evidence concerning the alleged offence, e.g. copy photograph, certificate of compliance for the camera (if appropriate) and a copy of the Police Officer's statement - as required for lawful and necessary corroboration
- if a mobile camera is involved.

· The driver may then receive a letter stating that the request is denied - stating words to the effect that photographic evidence can only be seen when a decision is made to prosecute and summons the driver to appear before a Court. This letter should also detail a denial for the other items of evidence, but often fails to mention them.

It is only at this stage that the alleged driver should consider sending to the authority, the letter as shown below.

· It is advisable that all correspondence be delivered via Recorded Delivery.

Dear Sirs,

I acknowledge receipt of your letter dated……….in which you allege that I have committed a speeding offence. That letter does not provide, or offer to provide, any evidence that I have indeed committed such an offence.

I regard your allegation with the utmost concern as I am being asked to make a very important decision which could very seriously affect my future quality of life.

I shall be grateful therefore if you will advise me where, in law, does it state or allow for evidence against a suspect to be deliberately withheld following, or during, the process of an official demand for the payment of money (in this case a £60.00 fixed penalty (or) £95.00 for a 'Speed Awareness Course'.

Further, whereby failure to pay that money on demand will expose the person suspected of that offence to a possible fine of up to £1000.00 (plus costs) at a Magistrates' Court, an amount that is in excess of 16 times (or 11 times) (respectively) the amount of money previously demanded.

This, in my view, could potentially be a criminal offence in itself, the offence of demanding money with menaces. It is also arguably a breach of my human rights in that I am being subjected to unreasonable and possibly unlawful pressure by being placed into a 'pay us now and save yourself harassment later' position.

I am entitled, in law, to all and any evidence that I have committed the offence complained of before I pay any money to you - not just at Court, but as soon as you issue me with a fixed penalty (or offer me a speed awareness course).

I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully

………………….

Further information: It is advised that all threats received after this letter is sent, be ignored - a letter will probably be received with words to the effect, "we are complying with the regulations so pay up within seven days or a court case will be prepared" etc…..

To date, there have been no prosecutions of any alleged (minor speeding) offender who has compiled and sent a letter similar to the above.

I have no idea if the information above is true or works, and would not try it myself.

I got a £60 fine and 3 points in similar circumstances, my insurance company said "Don't worry about that everyone get 3 points at some time or other" made no difference.

Flash

I got done in the summer by a cop with a gun. Didn't even know about it until I got the letter. The "visable cameras" and "police officers clearly visable" is all ******** as they are only guidelines. Take it on the chin and save up for a camera detector like I am.

If anyone is reading this and is yet to receive a ticket - make the most of your points free existence. The number of cameras is likely to trebble. A friend of mine got done for 36 in a 30 last week, incredible. One MPH over the legal "buffer".

I agree

it's the number of cameras is rapidly increasing, especially in some areas.

The legal "buffer" is also open to interpretation... it's usually 10%+2mph so 35 in a 30, 57 in a 50 etc. but the "+2mph" is dependant on the force. I know someone who got done for 34 in a 30 not long ago, and that was on a dual carriageway that had been a 40 limit for well over 20 years previously, Lancashire Constabulary no longer allow the +2mph so you get 10% and that's it !

Try this site for a list of all the UK gatsos...:

Also speed camera jammers or detectors are in the majority useless, especially with the SPECS cameras popping up all over the place which don't use radar, the only ones that are any good are the GPS based ones like "Origin Blue".

Hi guys,

Thanx 4 all ur replies. B4 I wrote this post, I'd pretty much resigned myself 2 the fact that I might as well pay up and b done. I'm now even more resigned 2 that fact ;)

At the end of the day, I've broken the law, I knew I'd broken the law and might as well face up 2 the consequences. Had I been travelling at 70 ish, maybe I might fight, but I checked my speedo when I saw the flashes and saw 92 mph, the exact figure shown on the speeding ticket, so at least I know my speedo is fairly accurate ! LOL ;)

Seriously tho', I was up 2 9 points a few years ago and have had 2 years with a clean licence. Those 9 points made me slow down, so I'll learn again from this lesson. I've just come back from 2 days in Walsall on training and drove down the A11, A14 and M6 and hardly broke 70mph and STILL did the journey in 3 1/2 hours, the same time it took me in January when I know 4 a fact I went as fast as I could coz I'd just got my HGT and wanted 2 push it as much as I could. The lesson 2 b learnt here is that speeding does not always mean getting there quicker, it only means u run a higher risk of being stung with fines & points and increases the chances of killing urself and others.

Blimey, I must b getting old !! LOL ;)

Thanx again 4 all ur help, and remember........

Speed Kills !

Re: Mobile Traps

well it is parked on the same bridge at least 2 days of the week

Re: Re: Mobile Traps

Why dont u all just stick to the speed limits? Boring i know, but at least u wont have a problem with speed traps. ;)

Speeding II

Went down the Fosseway today to Swindon. In 25 miles there were three mobile cameras, 7 bikes and 6 volvo's. They were taking the pics, coming up behind with the bikes then pulling you over by the car so you had somewhere to site while you got a bollocking.

I hit the first one at 80+, the second one at 70+ and the last one at under 40 - my nerves were completely shot by then...and the best thing was I wasn't pulled over once but the ****** in the Disco TD5 who thought it "clever" to overtake me as I poodled up to the last one got pulled over.

I will probably get somethin gin the post so I am not laughing to loudly yet!

Could be worse...

I was driving in France recently, on a quiet, straight, remote road, really was in the middle of nowhere.

It was sunny, the road was empty, the nearest village had 4 houses and a cashpoint about 3 miles back. Then a gendarme appeared in the middle of the road, indicating for me to pull into a field.

They'd set up a camera that looked between the road surface and a crash barrier, and their vehicles were hidden in bushes. A real ambush situation.

I was doing 148kmh in a 90 limit (bit of a race going on, to be honest). It was too fast, I'll admit, but not really dangerous. (If it had have been dangerous, I'd have hit the gendarme, surely??).

Got taken to a cashpoint, had to hand over 750 Euros on the spot (that's about 500 quid). If I didn't, they'd impound the car, which would have been hard to explain to Hertz.

Sometimes we forget how much fairer the laws are here: at least you don't get crippling on-the-spot fines over here. Who made the Gendarmes judge, jury and executioner?
