Right I'm planning on upgrading my speaker in the front doors of my 2002 mk2 punto mainly for a mix between quality and loudness (but mostly quality). I'm told that hertz esk165's are good but would I need an autoleads adaptor for them to fit they are 16.5cm and 66mm deep. Also the tweeter, If I put the in the same place the factory ones are (need wing mirror adjuster) how do I go about fitting them, I don't really want to cut holes it the trim if I can get away with it.

Other question is if I fit them then add some 6x9's on the parcel shelf can I send both sets to the same amp probably a little 300w jobby, then have a sub in the boot I'm thinking of just one of the vibe active evo ones (because the yellow sub will match the paintwork lol)

then send it all to the headunit, 2nd option is power front speaker off headunit and 6x9s off a little amp then the active sub. Think this would be easier. The headunit will have 4x50w amp

you wont need 6x9s with a sub

That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure I didn't really want to put them in to be honest as It will make it more annoying to remove the parcel shelf. At least with just a sub I can just take it out easily.

Do you know anything about fitting after Market speakers particularly the tweeters? And is it worth amping them if I get a decent alpine or pioneer headunit?

im not a super expert have to wait for volxstu for that

if you get a nice component set that provides you with the main speakers, tweeters and the crossovers then you can wire them all of one amp providing its powerfull enough

the door speakers unless they have a shallow mounting depth then you will need to get some pods like you said or make your own i think theres a pretty good guide in the guides section either punto or ICE section

the standard tweeter positions aint to bad but i think they can do with being moved up a bit

up to you if you wanner do that and if your handy with fiber glass ect

the tweeters you need to play around with the positioning so it sounds like the sound is comeing from the dashboard/bonnet kind of area

as for the sub if you can dont go active get a sub and seperate amp

do some decent sub/amp packages. i have this one

im very happy with it good for the price lol

hope that helps im pretty sure i got most of it right but might want to wait for someone with more experiance to come along and confirm

Only thing that i can think to add is to amp the front speakers and allow for a bit of sound deadening. (y)

Ok, I'll get the hertz ones as they sound good and are in my budget, I might have to pop into ice-direct to ask about install they sound do a better job than me fitting the tweeters and maybe make custom speaker pods lol. They have some good deals so I'll see what they can do ;)

Btw is it possible to add a sub to the factory headunit I've got the fiat 100w one at the moment just wondering if it possible until I get my headunit. If so what would I need links to shops or eBay would help. Cheers matt :)

right this is what i have come up with for a nice simple set up i can add to and develop.

Headunit:

Pioneer DEH-4200SD - with iPod lead

Front speakers:

Hertz ESK 165 components 16.5cm running off the headunit for mean while then add a little amp at later stage.

Rear:

standard (not really bothered i only sit in the front)

Subwoofer:

Vibe CBR12" Evo Active Sub 1600w

You can do a lot better than the Vibe sub for the money, also active isnt very good. You want a separate sub and amp. There is no difference to the wiring between active and a normal passive set up.
You would be better off amping up your standard speakers and geting everything sorted in the boot in one go. Then save up for after market components. By running a sub and unamped front speakers you will most likely blow them.
If you Amp the standard front speakers you only have to worry about too much power, distortion kills speakers not power, as long as the signal is clean its very difficult to blow a speaker by keeping the gains down. Your head units amp will start to distort the signal it sends to speakers way before your sub will and telling the difference between noise and music is very difficult.
