Hi All,

I'm a new member and have had my very lovely C Reg Fiat Panda for around 6 years now. I absolutely love this car but it has some health issues so sadly it has been stored in my parent's garage for the last 4 years. They now need their garage back and I am not in the position to get the car fixed.

I really love the car and don't want to sell it but it looks like this is my only option. I'm hoping some members here can advise me on the best way to sell the car, as I would like to make sure it goes to someone who will love it as the classic car that it is and not scrap it (as there hardly seem to be any left on the roads now).

It's in great condition body wise with super low mileage and looks really cute, but there are some problems with the gears which mean it makes very loud clanking noises when you change gear.

Can anyone advise me on where I should advertise or what my next steps should be? Also, do you have a rough idea of price for this year/model?

Thanks everyone!

Hi, welcome to the Forum.

Great to hear of another Mk1 coming to light, so pleased you came to us before eBay or the scrap man.

The best way to find an enthusiastic new owner is to put an ad in the classifieds section of this forum. Make sure you have a good range of photos, only by seeing them will we be able to value it. Having said that I can assure you it's worth a great deal more than scrap value ( ie £500+ ).

Hi there, and welcome to the Forum. Sorry to hear that you might have to sell. If you do, you're definitely in the right place to find a good home and a fair value.

If there is a chance you could keep the car but need some assistance with repairs (or referrals to an expert), you're in the right place too and there are people on here who could definitely help.

Best wishes

David

Thanks for all of your welcoming messages!

I'm really pleased to hear that I should be able to find 'Betty' a good home on here. I would love to fix her and keep her myself but I don't think it will be possible at the moment as I have so much on.

I will take lots of photos this weekend and put all the details up here so please check this thread again and hopefully you can help me to work out what the next steps should be.

I'm in North London (Barnet) right by the M25 so should be pretty easy to get to for most people.

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Some Panda advice needed - PHOTOS!

Hi Everyone,

As promised here is some more information about my little Panda.

Model: Fiat Panda 1000 CL, 3 door hatchback.

Date of first registration: 30/05/1986 (C Reg)

Mileage: 26,731

The colour described on the log book is grey but I think it’s a slightly green-grey (I believe it’s affectionately known to Panda lovers as cat-sick grey?!). I really like the colour as it’s quite unique and I’ve only ever seen it on Pandas.

Currently she is SORN and has no MOT.

I stopped driving her because she had some ‘clanking’ sounds when you change gears! I have looked at the RAC report and it says “Clutch release bearing worn/noisy”. At the time I decided to park her in my parents’ garage until I could afford to get her fixed. At that time she drove perfectly apart from the above mentioned noise, however now when I have tried to start her she won’t start. I think it might be the battery so I’m charging it at the moment – maybe she needs a new one as I think she still has her original battery.

The bodywork is in really great condition, especially considering she’s almost 27!! I’m attaching photos to give a better idea. The bodywork is almost perfect except for a small line of rust on the top of the driver’s door and a few spots of rust on the driver’s door and some small amount of rust under the bonnet. As far as I can see all the wheel arches etc look in great condition with no rust. I think she would generally benefit from a bit of attention with some T-Cut but the paintwork already looks really good as it is.

The tyres are a bit flat and I think at least one of them needs to be changed, but I have two spare tyres which I will include so that should be a pretty easy job to fix.

Inside the car is in pretty good condition too, although on the back seat there are some marks which I think would come out with a bit of scrubbing. On the front passenger seat there is a cigarette burn. I don’t smoke and neither did the previous owner so the car doesn’t smell of smoke.

The driver’s wing mirror is coming out of its setting and needs to be replaced. There was no stereo when I bought the car but I have got one which just needs to be wired in along with some speakers.

I’m attaching as many photos as I can to give you some good details of the car. Unfortunately I couldn’t get to the passenger side to take photos but as far as I remember there isn’t anything of note to photograph on that side.
It would be great to get your feedback on what you think I should value the car at, and if anyone would be interested in giving Betty a new home please e-mail me (jen.forever at Hotmail.co.uk) to suggest a price and arrange a viewing.

The car is located in High Barnet, Hertfordshire. It’s quite easy to get to as we have the M25 and M1 nearby.

I really hope we can get Betty a nice new home as she’s such a special car, any help/advice the community can provide would be really appreciated. Thanks everyone!

 Not a Mk1 after all! :(

But must be the earliest Mk2 we've heard of! :)

Homeward, forget those other Pandas, get across to this one!

blinkelephant, my advice to you would be to sit on it for a couple of weeks to give one of us the chance to buy it from you, this would be your best guarantee that's it's going to a good home.
Not being a Mk1 is a shame but even so as a very early Mk2 in Oslo grey it's still a very nice Panda to have and I'm sure you'll find a willing new owner amongst us. (y)

Earliest MK2 I've ever seen. It has the same interior as my Bianca. I agree wait for an enthusiast to come along and treat the car in the right way... You really should have put these details in a classified ad on this forum. I will let this go for the minute, but it would be good if you could do it at some point.

As for price...let the market decide. Put an ad up on here with " Best offer" and let people fight for it.

Forgot to say....it have three things in its favour.

1) the colour

2) early MK2

3) low milage

It won't be worth as much as a MK1...but you never know.

I have to say that knowing the fabric inside very well that cleaning it is a major problem. The reason it appears to have lost its shape is that the foam stitched into it has fallen apart. Please don't attempt to clean it. Leave it to the buyer otherwise you could accidentally ruin it. Got to be the weakest fabric fiat ever made and they soon dropped it from their range.

Very tempting...!

Seeing the 750L, tomorrow (against my better judgment...); but going to follow Most Easterly Pandas' advice: so probably much haggling and then walking away.... Also: the mileage check returned some odd figures -- so I shall view; and then do some more digging....

I'm really pleased you all like the Panda! I would really like her to go to an enthusiast but unfortunately I've just been told that she needs to be out of the garage she's currently in in less than 2 weeks so unfortunately I don't have the luxury of time.

If anyone is interested in taking her on please get in touch! Or if you have any ideas of how to find a new owner please let me know. Thanks for your feedback :)
