General smokey exhaust on idle - diesel

Evening all, yes this is my 1st time here, just got a 2006 1.9 diesel sedici with 60k on clock, starts & runs perfectly but noticed that on idle, ie waiting at lights etc, its very smokey from exhaust. It has been sitting around for awhile & has only done very short journeys lately, do you think its just a bulid up from no long runs & standing about & would a bottle of fuel cleaner / treatment & a loooong run help ? any advice / comments would be most appreciated, thks

Might be an idea to do a long run in a high gear. That will give the DPF a chance to regenerate and clear the crap out.

diesel particulate filter. It's a stupid filter they put in the exhaust system. It can get clogged up and cost a lot of money to replace with lots of short journeys. I had to replace mine in January because the EGR valve broke and sent too much soot into it.

lo again , filled the car with new fresh diesel & took on a loooooong run & for awhile there was smoke & them there wasnt so pulled over had a look at the exhaust & yes it was deffo clear of smoke, drove back down a10 onto a414 (about 10miles) + smoke came back ?? when i pulled up was quite smokey & smoke smelt oily & stuff coming out of exhaust seemed quite wet & hot ?? car pulls like a train, very responvive & ticks over very smoothly ? so get your thinking cap on again, ive got some of that diesel fuel system cleaner stuff from redex & some oil additive stuff for engine which helps reduce smoke & sorts worn seals, cars only done 60k with fsh, thks,

Just chkd the engine oil level & it looks as though is 100% above the max on the dipstick, this cant be a good thing ?

You could always give it an oil filter and oil change to be on the safe side. If there's too much oil it might just be burning off excess... but I'm not an expert so would recommend a second opinion.

I've only had my Sedici kick out smoke three times. Once when I had left it unused for a week or so and it ran smokey for a minute or two. Once when I'd done a really long eco run and then thrashed it (which I presume was clearing out the DPF). And once when the DPF packed up and the car went into limp mode (and that was a LOT of smoke).

Are you sure the 2006 model has a DPF? If so the high oil level is caused by diesel going into the sump. There is a risk of this diesel being picked up by the pistons and used as fuel causing a runaway engine and catastrophic failure.
Suggest change oil & filter ASAP and go a run of at least 10 miles keeping revs above 2500 also consider blanking off the EGR valve (see my other posts re this) and removing the DPF.

Thanks for this advice, the car only seems to smoke when it feels like it, went out yesterday morn, did about 10 miles & no smoke whatsoever, however on way back up it started smoking again ? the smell is very strong diesel & ive noticed that on these cars the end of the ehaust sits under the car rather than finishing like most cars do past the back of the car, this means that the smelly diesel exhaust fumes seem to linger under car & seep in is a egr blank / dpf complete removal advisable & what are benefits / disadvantages longterm & what are appx costs, im over in herts so any local garages that you could recommend, thx again
