The drivers side rear tyre on my cinq sporting has acquired a slow puncture and needs replacing. I'm assuming that unless I replace the other tyres at the same time I'll have to stick with the standard 165/55:confused:
Instead of to changing to 175/50 as seems to be the reccomended thing to do on here.
If I have to stay with 165, what's best? I gather definitely not nankang ex500 (which luckily is whats punctured);)

Most punctures are repairable, shop around for best quote.
I use mix of washing up liq and water for bubbles, to detect leaks.
NaKings are good fun in wet...

I asked in the local tyre/exhaust place that normally sort my car and they said about £15 to repair a puncture and probably about £40 for a new tyre, I thought for the extra 20 odd quid I may aswell get a new tyre.
I will check the wheels though, they need taking off anyway because I want to paint the brakes underneath(y)
So providing it is the tyre whats reccomended in 165/55? I had a look on mytyres.co.uk and the selection was Nankang xr611 (have one of these already), Pirelli p700z (have one of these already) and a Rockstone 109 wich I've never heard of:confused:

The Nankang XR 611s were the best tyre I could find in 165/55. The Pirelli P700Z were much worse. The Nankang EX500 is the worst tyre ever in comparison, and I would call it a ditchfinder.

As an aside, the XR611 is copied from a pattern Uniroyal used to use as 'The rain tyre' many years ago.

Very soft, they wear quick and when I ran them the outsides always used to wear quicker than the centres (think this was due to the hard sidewalls/low profile of them)

But when they're £30 a time delivered I wasn't complaining!!

Providing it it is the tyre I'll probably go with Xr611 then seeing as i have one already, would be nice to have at least a couple of tyres that match:rolleyes:. If it isn't the tyre and is the wheel letting the air out what's the solution there? New wheel?

If you do get another XR611, have the pair on the back wheels, trust me.

If it's the wheel causing loss of air then take the tyre off and check it's not buckled/bent, if it's a steel and got a major dent it can let air seep out, if it's an alloy then they sometimes corrode around the bead, again have the tyre taken off and give it a clean with some wet & dry IF there is any corrosion on the bead. Also get the alloy/tyre combo checked on the balancer (really you should do this anyway when fitting the new tyre, even if it's going on the rear of the car)

Turns out it was the rim not the tyre. Ran it down the tyre place this morning, they took off the tyre, bit of sanding and cement, new valve, tyre back on. £15 all done(y)

On the downside though I still have the much hated Nankang EX500:rolleyes:
