I've just bought a S reg bravo s 1.4, i find the acceleration, especially up hills a bit slow.

I can't tell whether this is an engine related fault or that the car is actually 'slow'.

Also i noticed that the engine idles erratically, although this is very slight, i have no rev counter so i can't measure the drop.

I want to check the leads and plugs but i can't get the things off! I've tried pulling the ends but they are just stuck - perhaps i should attack them with wd40.

Can anyone help me on these problems?

It is worth taking it to a fiat dealer? How much will they sting me for this sort of check up?

I really like the car, i just hope it would accelerate a little faster.

by the way i did not have an impreza before the bravo so it's not like am after 'moon on a stick' acceleration - it's actually comparing to my old 1.2 Nova! although the bravo is doing 80mph fine on the mway.

same prblem

i have a 1.4 xs and it has same problem also it sort of missfires or hesatates while driveing. i went to fiat and they said it was my wheels. they had no clue my wheels and tyers where brand new and balanced.

Re: same prblem

You lot will be laughing at the amount of problems Im havng with my car and this is one of them, my tyres are also new and balanced, what can I do? The sparks have all been changed to

Erratic idling

The are various reasons.
Check: air filter, oxygen sensor, fuel filter. May need replacement.

Get the throtle body cleaned.
Also I found some spark plugs are problematic. Although Fiat recommends G.Lodge, I had problems--changed to Valeo, Great!

Hope this helps.

if its 1996 or 97

you should check the textile mat under the hood. it covers the air intake. if so, just remove the corresponding part of the mat.

i had phenomenal results with my td100

I had just the same problem and i've spend so mych money to idiot mechanics that i was just one step before i sell the f**** car. So i bought Haynes Bravo/Brava manual. Hours later I found it! It was so easy to solve it after all. My Lambda sensor was out of order. If your car has exceeded 50.000Êm you should change it too. Check also air and fuel filters, they may need to be changed.
