If you want to do it anyway, door handle removal is easy (took mine off before I went in).

Open the door, and remove the black cap that is on the same horizontal line as the handle. In there is a Torx T20 grub screw; undo it as much as possible (it doesn't come out!!).

Then, remove the cap next to the handle on the door, pull the handle towards the rear of the car, then pull out gently and remove.

Takes all of 30 seconds!

Do you kow if this is the same on the 5 door? I've undun the screw under the cap, but the handles wont budge.

Is it likely to be something i'm doing wrong, or is there a different method for the 5dr?

thanks

Yep, exactly the same. Remember to undo the grub screw as much as possible, THEN REMOVE THE CAP, and then attempt to remove the handle! :D

clips are about 50p each, you will need 11 each side if they all break!

make sure you sand them all down first, don't rush the whole job!

Guys - how do you get the mouldings off? Is it just a case of brute force?!!

It's easy! You don't have to remove them either just mask them up, if you use 1" masking tape you will find this easy to shape round the mouldings!(y) Gently sand the surface of your mouldings with 500grit paper then clean off using some panel wipe or any alcohol based cleaner/degreaser. Spray some plastic adhesion primer on 1 coat is enough, then leave it for 1/2 an hour to dry. Then spray 4 full coats of filler primer on, leaving 10mins btween each coat. Get some 600 wet & dry & gently rub the primer smooth. Again clean the mouldings with the panel wipe & allow to dry. Apply 3 full coats of your topcoat, again allowing at least 10mins to dry between coats, then 1 final coat which should be a drop coat (hold the can further away) this will give a uniform finish & help the paint settle. Once dry apply 2 full coats of lacquer & leave overnight!(y)

would i follow this exactly for my colour being solid or not? mine is solid mourano blue!

if i cant be bothered to do all the work myself. where should i go to get a good job done? take it, it would be some specialist car mod sop and not my local Daves garage and repair type place. anyone got good places to in mind?
