Hi there all you savvy experts. :worship:

My Uno does not want to change gears when the motor is on. It feels like the clutch pedal presses in to easily. Do you think the I should change the clutch on it... (big job after reading forums) or is there perhaps something else I should look at before attempting the clutch kit?

Kind regards,
Francois

Hi,
I've just done a clutch change on my Uno and believe me, it's not fun!

Before thinking of changing your clutch I would first check the hydraulic system out. Check for leaks from the master cylinder and slave cylinder. Try bleeding the system too. When was the fluid last changed? If it's not clear it could be old and contaminated, which would cause a soft pedal.

Get someone to depress the clutch pedal while you watch the operating rod move under the bonnet, is it moving the full distance? If not then this is why you are having problems changing gears and it's probably the hydraulic system that needs attention. Good news is that a new master or slave cylinder is not expensive from Midas. The slave is easy to change, the master is a bit of a pig to get to as it's up under the dash board but it's still better than taking that gearbox out! Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the reply.

The car has + 240 000 on it, so we decided to change the clutch after all. (Although I am sure I could have gotten it to work by checking the hydraulic system). Took us two days to do it. One day to take it out and clean, and one day to put it all back. All in all I learned a lot and found it easy enough by following the forums. Works like a dream now.

Thanks a lot!
