Hmm it does sound like a fault with the HU to me.

im going to have a try at my brothers head unit when he gets his car back, maybe that will rule one thing out >.<,

the factors are

. Wires from HU to speakers
. HU too strong for standard speakers and new ones?
. HU in general
. cant think of more

i may have solved the problem, only the sub is amped, so the speakers arent got any other power to them so do i need an amp? i got like 200w with no amp

hrm, problem has came up again could anyone point out to me where is the speaker wirein behind the headunit so i can rewire it :/
