General shift light

i have an 09 plate 1.2 lounge manual and dont seem to have a shift light in my clocks.
should i have one?
if i should have one can you turn it on or off?

You didn'y say which model of car that you have. You gave the age, engine size, trim level and gearbox but is a a Panda, 500, Punto, etc? Knowing that may lead to someone with the same car telling you if was available on not back then.

You can not switch it off. If you learn that you should have it and don't (also try your owner's manual) and it's not working, it may be a bad fuse or lamp that needs changing.

If its a 500 1.2 Lounge on a 09, then No it does not come fitted with the shift light,

Introduced as part of the 2010 improvement bundle so cars with the revised suspension should have it.

If you drive carefully enough, you will only see the lights on rare occasions .
