She's gone boys.

Spotted in the classifieds on this forum by a very nice lurker called Matt. He will I'm sure be joining the membership shortly. He drives a JTD and I think it's fair to say he's impressed but I will let him tell you all about it in due course.

A sad day for me but a great one for him. Enjoy.

Not sure. Going to a car supermarket tomorrow for a look. Got my eye on a Megane or a C4. Only have up to 8K to spend.

Whatever I get it won't be as much fun as the Stilo.
Funny you should mention those. I was looking at the specs of the C4 HDI after john55 was raving about what a good engine it had the other day but rather get the impression it wouldn't be as much fun

Keep us posted (y)

Can't understand why you'd replace a Stilo with a Megane... surely much of the same thing!

Why not an Alfa Romeo 147? :)
The more-expensive sister of the Stilo.

Should get a good one for 8K, or you could always get a 164 like mine for under 1K, leaving some money for petrol :D

My car allowance means I must change my car when it reaches 4 years so that's why I have to get a new one. Would have kept the Stilo for the wife but my experiences with Fiat dealerships means it's just too risky to keep. Alfa is much the same, same problems, same reliability, same dealers.

I have had my fun with the JTD and now I have to accept that reliability and a decent dealer are my main priority. That too may be a risk going French but it will never be as bad as my dealing with Fiat (I hope)

aint the c4 supposed to have really poor reliability?? theres only one country does electrics worse than the italians, and thats the french...good luck:D

why keep going to a fiat dealer too?? go to a local private that you know you can trust

Every Top Gear Survey I've seen shows Citroen at the bottom of the table on most counts and almost always worse than or around the same as Fiat/Alfa, which is saying something.

Not that I mind the cars in many respects. Some of the design is rather interesting for sure, but personally speaking if I was going French, I'd go with Renault. That said, the Megane must be due to be replaced, given it came out the same time as the Stilo :chin:

Funnily enough, I had the option of getting a 1.4 Megane at the same time as looking at the Stilo. Didn't like the Megane though as it was that sort of horrible greeny/yellow/champagne colour and also looked a little rougher than the Stilo being a year older, so went with the Fiat.

i think we alllll know that allllll cars have their problems, and having both meganes and lagunas in the family i can say that they have their fair share of problems too.

good luck bozzy finding a replacement :)

Cheers boys, my heads hurting. Just been to a car supermarket and it drove me mad. Came back empty handed despite there being more cars than you can poke a stick at. Must say the interior of the Meganes was nice (leather ones anyway). Citroens a little more bland but still nice. It's the bus until I sort one out. can't find eff all in yellow though.

I was really talking about the dealerships in terms of customer satisfaction, I agree every car has it's issues. That said, these surveys cover the cars as well as the dealerships.

Sorry to hear that the Stilo has gone, but hopefully to a good home. If it's just the dealers putting you off, particularly Alfa, i would reconsider. Alfa moved up from 30 to 21st in this years driver power in Auto Express. I know you gotta question the accuracy of surveys sometimes but it seems decent news for Alfa.

A guy that described his positive experiences of Alfa ownership in the survey used Guests Alfa, which i believe is Solihull. So if you liked a 147 Bozzy, you may not have far to travel to a decent dealer ;)

I think the French makes are as risky, if not more so, than Fiat. Having owned 2 Clios and 2 Puntos, both Puntos have needed next to nothing repaired on them whereas the Clios needed alot of attention, and the one that was brand new was un-driveable 3 times in 18 months. Having said that, my parents 52 plate Laguna has been pretty good in the 4 years theyve had it.

As for this Vauxhall Corsa lark ive been reading about in another thread, don't you dare!

Don't touch the 1.6HDi!! A mate of mine has one and dear God it's so slow (n)

Very quiet though  Cool cabin too (y) Looks good too..... hmmmmmmmmmm

which 1.6 HDI? The old 8 valve ones are, but the HDI-16 is the engine to get (something like an M-JET in fiat terms.)
A friend has a C4 1.6 HID16 VTR for sale. I have driven it and it is quite similar to a stilo, except without the body roll, heavy clutch and idle vibration. Looks better too. The only bad thing I found is sat-nav's don't work unless you put them on the side window, because it has a solar reflective windscreen which blocks the sat-nav signal
