Technical Shell V Power

Technical Shell V Power

Of course there is still a premium of around 5p per litre over regular unleaded, but if it's true that fuel consumption is reduced as a result, you can probably knock another few pence per litre off as well - so the gap in price may well be smaller than you think between the two....all IMO of course!(y)

That's how tesco market their momentum 99. They reckon the increase in mpg more than covers the extra cost.

Whats the difference of vpower and normal over in UK?

In Greece at the BP i go to it is 1.8 for 95 unleaded
and 1.91 for 100 Ultimate Super Unleaded.

(prices quoted in euros)

In Greece Shell V power 100 racing seems to be ridiculous at 1.95, they also market a V Power 97 (i have tried this and it made absolutely no difference in feel),
which i just think is 95 with a few additives = )

Compression ratio on the 1.4 is a bit lower than the 1.2.
If I still had the 1.4 I would use 'good quality' cheaper 95 octane.

If LPG worked out at half the price of your petrol and you planned keeping your car 'until it dropped' would you not consider it ?

Yes I fill up with 95 BP. I have a discount with my debit card at BP so i always fill it up there.

No i dont want to drive a bomb and i dont want to have half my limited bootspace removed. I will stick with the 1.4 normal! I dont understand the point LPG that much if people really wanted economy they can just go for a diesel which would end up being about the same price (especially as in Greece diesel is 20% cheaper than petrol due to different taxation!)

In the Fiat range LPG is offered (in some countries) on the 1.4, 1.2 and also on the T-jet engine in 120bhp guise. Apparently it's not available on the Multi-air. I can relate to half of the boot space being robbed but now they fit into the spare wheel area and are very neat. Plus the 'some' of the newer installations haven't got the performance penalty as the old ones but there is a drop of around 10% on mpg. I would much prefer a quiet dual fuel car to a diesel especially on a 500 and around town it's more environmental friendly. It is not an option for me but I can understand if you were not interested.

i would consider an lpg model (y)
particularly useful when there are (threats of) fuel strikes

LPG is less of a bomb than petrol in its tank and if your involved in a collission serious to rupture an LPG tank, the bang will finish you off instead of prolonging the agony you'd be in if you were still alive, and LPG is still cheaper to run than a DERV in the UK ;) :p

You know funny this but in turkey at some point most of the taxis had lpg (now they are mostly fiat albea 75 hp multijet diesels) and i remember the underground garages writing no lpg cars allowed in the garage!

 I used V-Power in my last fuel up for my motorcycle and my fuel consumption went up from an average of 60mpg to 69mpg for that journey. The performance seemed to be better in all gears and the engine seemed to run much more smoothly (not sure if there was some placebo affect in there).

I know that it is only one data point but it's definately generated enough interest for me to try using it again (y) and I will certainly use it in my Fiat. You can see my data on fuelly which seems to show a 15% increase in fuel economy for a 7% increase in cost. I'm a bit dubious about the economy increase, so will need more data.

You might have to allow for some of the good weather lately. I've been getting an increase in mpg which I can't account for but I'm not complaining.:)
On a slightly difference topic have you tried using a crankcase breather filter ? A number of bikers seem to use them and it supposedly increases the octane of the fuel making it more efficient on higher compression engines.

No, it's not for me, I'm afraid. I generally tend to keep my vehicles stock, as they are from the manufacturer.
