I have a HGT and i get a lot of shaking from 50 - 75, from 80+ it gets better and eventually stops. I have had the wheels balanced/checked many times and they are fine, any one have any ideas what this annoying problem is please let me know..

Thanks

Re: Re: Shaking

I have a similar prob too, thought it might have been wheel balancing. None of my wheels have had a bump that I am aware of, but only had the car since Oct

Re: Re: Re: Shaking

Are you using Part worn tyers?
They can cause a few annoying problems.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Shaking

A friends porche had a bad vibration, turned out to be a badly made tyre.

The sources are going to be:
off ballance tyre (alot of places cannot ballance a wheel to save their lives)
faulty tyre
bent wheel
wheel not sitting correctly (rust or crud between it and the hub)
sticking brake

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Shaking

Sensible response (for once).

I had this problem on an Alfa 145.

If you know someone who has a Fiat/Alfa, swap your front wheels and give it a blast then...........

A pound to a pinch of shite that your tyres are Harry Bright. Pirelli's all round cured the job, but it's probably just the from two. I'd err on the side of caution and buy all four.

I have Eagle F1's on the back which i only purchased 2 months ago, i have some Kangnang (or something!!! like that!!!)on the fronts, got them with the car, might have to try changing them...

I will let you know if this solves the problem..

Thanks everyone

yeah for some reason when i hit 80+ my bravo gets some vibration through the steering wheel, i know the car had been bumped in a previous life, cos the T*** bent the track rod end and the wishbone, i felt so dumb when i found out,

Re: Re: Shaking

I had a similar problem on a Citroen ZX a few years back - eventually found a small bulge on the inside side-wall of one of the front tyres. New boots on the front - hey presto, teeth stopped rattling!!

Re: Re: Re: Shaking

My Bravo used to shake like hell around 90mph+, but since I put some HLX alloys I bought on, the ride is SO much smoother, all the way upto 120.

Mine too

I had a similar problem and it went on for about 2 weeks, I was sure it was the balancing or the tyre and got both looked at. But it turn out to be the wheel bearing that was packing it in. It eventually went and when replaced the shaking was gone

Re: Mine too

Mine still vibrates when 90mph + after having had the wheels changed a couple of months ago. I have now noticed a small squeek when turning the wheel at low speeds. Could my problem be warped brake discs or the worn bearing as someone else mentioned?
1.6 - 54k miles
Cheers,
Marko

Re: Re: Mine too

Marko, with warped discs the shaking would be more evedent when braking.
Is the case?

John.

Re: Re: Re: Mine too

only if i really have to scrub off the speed quickly - think i may have done this once too many times. The car definately shakes more at speed since the tyre change. Braking normally feels fine.
