"A stunt driver has crashed the car used by movie secret agent James Bond into Italy's Lake Garda during filming of 007's latest movie, Quantum of Solace.

The driver was delivering the iconic Aston Martin DBS to the film scene in heavy rain when he lost control around one of the lake's narrow curves.

The driver was quickly rescued and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Italian TV showed the car, reportedly the only one available for use in the film, being winched out of the lake.

Filming for the movie - starring Daniel Craig as the latest Bond - has already taken the crew to England, Panama, Chile and Mexico.

The newest film in the long-running 007 franchise is to be released."

'As the £134,000 Aston Martin plunged into Lake Garda, onlookers might have been forgiven for thinking they were watching filming for the new James Bond movie.

In fact, they weren't far wrong. Except that this particular DBS was actually on its way to the set yesterday – and being driven by a technician from the British factory.

But it seems just being in a James Bond car can give you 007 powers. Astonishingly, driver Fraser Dunn, 29, of Leamington Spa, suffered only minor injuries after the supercar careered off the road, piled through an iron railing and into the Italian lake.

And despite the Aston Martin's roof being completely smashed in, Mr Dunn calmly freed himself and swam to shore. He was due to be released from hospital last night.

Mr Dunn was driving one of five DBSs to the set of Quantum Of Solace, the 21st Bond movie which has just begun shooting, when the accident happened at 7am.

A rescue crane dragged it from the water after being called in by police.

Teacher Ben Appleby, who lives near the scene, said: "The car was travelling very fast on an extremely narrow and bendy road. It's a dangerous stretch so it's not surprising something happened."

Ironically, the DBS was due to take part in filming by the lake today in a scene where Daniel Craig roars away from the scene of a fireball crash – and a truck ends up in the water.

Quantum Of Solace's opening sequence is set five minutes after the end of Craig's first Bond outing in Casino Royale.

Last night, Mr Dunn's girlfriend Rachel Andrews said: "He is OK. But he is certainly not a stuntman – he is an engineer." '
