Ive got the 1.2 bravo and when i reach about 80mph + the steering wheel starts heavily vibrating/shaking. I thaught it could be because its just a 1.2 and its nearing the top 20 or so mph but i was just wondering could it have anything to do with my wheels being 14" or not?

Thanks

Its probably more to do with worn bushes all over the place. engine mounts, arb etc.
Also, it could be a buckled wheel, or worn out shock absorber(s) as its quite hard to buckle a 14" steel wheel, and you'd remember the bump if you did it...
Unless you drive on a track a lot, then it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

also could be something as simple as your wheel balancing, have you had nerw tyres fitted?

Marea, why settle for less

Wheel shaking

They are 14" alloys not steelies lol. Also i dont remember any sort of hard bump to buckle a wheel but it could be i suppose. The tyres are still the same as when i bought them as there is plenty of tread on them.

have a look at the front wheels see they have got ant weights on them,

Most likely just poorly-balanced tyres on one or both front wheels. Maybe they wer'nt balanced very well initialy, (all too common a cause) but also weights can fall-off by themselves sometimes.

Either way it's the easiest/cheapest thing to check for first.

Yes, i would suggest wheel balance, Unusual to start at 80mph though. generally they start at 65-70 mph

if its the same alex, the wheels were balanced when the tyres was put on, check the tightness of them, they arent buckled because i had them chacked over for cracks etc before i sold them on. check the wheel tightness as it is not impossible for a wheels nut to come loose.

You have got the wheels on the right side of the car I hope? Most modern tyres are directional, either check the tread or in a lot of cases manafacturers put "indication of rotation" arrows on the side walls.

most new tyres are directional, but this would not make any difference, i put my citroen wheels on wrong ie direction was wrong way, all the garage said to me was that the tyres would wear quicker,

im sure only your front wheels are balanced so i would first check to see if they have any weights on the wheels, check front and back, if weights are on the back get them swapped over asap

If you put them on the wrong way the water dispersal effect of the tread could also be affected. Balancing and tracking first as others have suggested. Had this on Shabash! when I first got her and she was toeing out iirc.

Remember, a dog is not just for Christmas. With any luck there'll be enough left for sandwiches on Boxing Day too!
