I've just purchased/received a Bravo 100 HLX and I am in some confusion about the service intervals. Initially i was told that the first service would be at 9,000 miles or 12 months (whichever is soonest), then i was told that it was 12,000 miles and that there was no need for the 1,000 mile check-up! Can anybody clear this up for me and also what is the mileage intervals for oil changes.

Thanks in anticipation.

Service is 12k or one year. 1k service is not always done these days but I would still do, reason is that the engine is very new and lots of filings or bits of the metal form the new engine contaminate the oil. This is fine but I think of the oil as the blood of the engine and dirty oil will never be good for an engine. Personally I change my oil every 6k. Fiat do the 12k one and I take it to a local garge for the 6k. No harm is donne and I believe that regualr oil changes are good and cost little. Always change the filter too and to save more money buy the oil and filter yourself and ask fiat or your local garge to use that.
If you live in england then Kwik Fit will change the oil while you wait and they will charge little if you supply the parts and remember WATCH them do it and mark the new or the old filter so you know that they have changed it called me suspicious but trust no one.
Cheers

Recommended Oil?

Thanks for the information, what is the best oil to use for the 100 HLX? and what brand of filter?

Thanks in anticipation.

Which Oil ?

The 12,000 mile service interval only stands if you are using a High Quality Synthetic oil (approx £25)
you choose .....

Oil to use

Standard Halfords filter will suffice, Synthetic or part syn oil is good enough. An engine flush is a good thing to do before replacing the oil too. Any brand I use magnetix at the moment but i do change now and again, expect to pay £20 -£25 for oil and 10 for filter and flush together
cheers

Mobile 1

It's the best oil there is and will pay for itself within the first 4 months of using it. Only oil that can be used in any car engine. Ask any decent garage (who sells it, not a Fiat they have their own) and they will be able to supply you with all the jumble on it. It is very impressive, i use it in the HGT.

That is what I use in my HGT

It is very expensive, but yes worth every penny. I used it in my Uno Turbo for 2 years and it never let me down, well till the poxy cam belt snapped :( And that was after only 23k when it was changed before !!!

Another choice..? 4 HGT !!!

Hi;

The recommended brands are well enough like the Mobil 1 but there is a real option too.

It's the Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40...!

Well, u have to compare the prices both for those fully synthetic oils whose are close to perfection.

But... Remember that Ferrari's using the Shell Helix !( A different viscosity of course..)

P.S Look for the Castrol Formula Slx 0w-30 It's a good hi-performance oil but it's too thin for the HGT engine. And this may cause some carbon problems in the long-term use because of the oil's hi-penetrating character !

See ya...
