can anyone tell me how to reset my service light on my stilo please:confused:

Go to a place that has the machine and pay them to do it.

I think it stinks aswell, there should be an alternative method of resetting it with the machine kit.

Personally I dont think I'd have the nerve :)

Err mate I done a service on me motor so be a good bloke would ya and put the old candle aart eh

An Audi dealer charged us £45 to reset a sevice message, but the local VW dealer refused to reset one for us point blank. Nice.:D

I have had 2 cases of knackered clusters.......both due to attempts to reset service light, customer didn't admit this at first though. Honestly dont know what software they were using but came from same garage.

 Must have been some badly written code to do that.

Why they dont make it easier i dont know, they could set it up so that for the first 60,000 miles you couldnt reset it yourself (ie 3yrs or xxx miles) then after that you can, it is only ment to be a service reminder light after all. In the states now theres that right to repair bill which means company's have to give out this kind of data to normal peeps.

Does it go off after you've driven so many miles, ie the volvo's goes off after 2miles. And is self resettable if you know how. So no need to add £45 to the cost of a service. (of course if you took it to a dealer they would do that for free - WOW! 5mins labour and a laptop?) Or in the S40's case press a button key on, key off, key on to certain position hold let go and done.

Good idea..........it doesn't reset after mileage, also your paying for techs time & useage of expensive equipment. Note NumanR's post earlier, this isn't a fiat only thing & most fiat garages just charge a nominal fee.

Be honest.........would you buy (with your hard earned cash) a S40 with 70K on it with no evidence of service history? I wouldn't i'd wait for another to come along.

Totally, i bought one just 8 month after 3yrs, with full service history. But now everything is being done at home. Yea sure might affect the resale value slightly but at £200+ a service and me servicing it at very regular intervals with superior parts i'll have a wad of receipts to show for the nice synthetic oil, fuel filter replaced etc etc, which wouldnt have been done at a garage.

Ie fuel filter is 80K, i changed mine so i know its new for me. Oil changed every 6K, etc. Lets just say the car had all the stamps but when we changed the plugs it was obvious they should have been done earlier. So at least i know i did them, and although there's a receipt to say they were changed 20K ago i wouldnt believe it.

If it was an enthusiast with a wad of receipts then i would take that as evidence of service history. But as you say if i was buying it and say a respected member of the volvo forums was selling with no stamps and a private sale with full service history was selling, i'd go for the forum guy. (obviously i'd check it out etc, but cars being equal)

Lets face it my HGT has a value of say £2K, i can save myself at least £180 a yr by buying quality parts, synthetic oil (every 6K) etc and doing all the other service bits myself. Thats not going to reduce the value of the car £180 a yr.

Dont get me wrong for those that cant and even for myself there's some things a service can spot that you cant, the benefit of having a set of hydrolic ramps etc. Now i'm lucky as well my friends a trained aircraft mechanic and went to college to study automotive mechanics. So i have all the help and advice i need to hand.

I did go on a bit! But in conclusion you should be able to reset and service your car if you can.

The 'garage only' resetting of the service indicator is, IMO, disgusting.

It is not a legal requirement to have the car serviced, and no garage would accept the light not being on as proof of a service happening anyway, so where's the motivation from Fiat to do it? Money for resetting???

A lot of other makes have self resetting functionality, if you know what you are doing and how to do it. Also, EU block exemption laws on servicing requirements applies to the actual service - so why not to the turning off the service now indicator??? With NO tools and from the drivers seat position???

Not banging on, but it really does grate me up the wrong way about having to pay a garage up to £40 to turn a light out. T - if every garage charged a tenner that would be a lot better, but still not great.

Moral or the story, is if you self service (like me) keep all receipts and invoices as proof of work done.

Well, it bugged me for a few weeks but after that the SERVICE DUE -CHECK OK just becomes part of the start up. It's not as if it's beeping or flashing or even on all the time like other car SERVICE lights which would be a real pain.

Thing is that it's over complicated, it's not just a trigger warning light. There is a whole countdown of miles and days to service warnings that the body computer works on. As far as I understand it, when the SERVICE DUE warning is taken out at the garage the next lot of data of miles and days to next sevice have to be input which is input like a "coupon" i.e. there are only so many "coupons" you can input which resets the timer to the next service interval again. The right message has to be sent down the can lines to tell it what to do which is why there's no easy way for the customer to do it

That's why so many garages say they can extinguish your SERVICE light but then find they can't.

Yeah, know what you mean about the service due note.

Mine's been doing for a few years now. It can stay doing it as well, it doesn't bother me. I can prove it has been serviced too, which is good.

You only have to send the right CAN-command to reset the "service due" indicator - the "coupon" is subtracted of the remaining coupons automatically and the counters are reset to 365 days and 20.000 km/12.000 miles (or 15.000?).
I wonder why so few members of Fiat Forum are interested in the CAN-bus system of their Stilo....
I previously offered to sell the reset-command code to a group of interested members but I guess most of them are too afraid of messing things up?
The reset code was tested several times (also on my own car) and it works 100% reliable.
You only need the right hard- an software which isn't too expensive (89 euro for the interface plus software and 14 euro for the cable )
Once you have the interface you can send all Examiner CAN-commands to dashboard, door nodes, radio, body computer etc.
As long as you know what you're doing it's fun to control all kind of electronic parts of your Stilo !
For those who are interested read my posts (yellowstilo) on www.canhack.de (in German but the codes mentioned are understandable anyway....)
Please ignore the porn-messages posted by some idiots - I guess you can distinguish them from posts about CAN-items.

Yellowstilo / Stilo-knowledge from Holland...

And lets not tar all people with the same brush, I am VERY interested in the Stilo's CAN network and am getting to know all about it with all that I've done . . .

I just can't afford to spend 100Euros for a device that I will need once a year, unless there is the odd chance that I need to do something else.
