Can I introduce my Panda Selecta to you all........

You may have seen it advertised here in the classifieds by member 'Chantilly Lace'. It had been on for quite a while with no one buying it, and Sue and Brian were getting quite desperate to move it on as they now have another car, but limited parking space. With nobody interested in her, probably due to a gearbox fault they had been quoted £1000 to put right, it looked like she was heading for the scrapyard.
Well my experience of the auto Panda is zero, but they weren't asking alot for her so I took a chance, travelled 100 miles to Northampton, and drove her back to Nam.
I'm so glad I made this decision because she is a little cracker! :D
42,000 miles on the clock, Mot till october, taxed till end of April. Putting the gearbox aside for a moment, she is in lovely original condition, both inside and out.

Sue was a true Panda lover and I could tell she was upset to have to part with her. I had thought that if the worst came to the worst I would be able to get my money back by breaking her, but after running around for the last couple of days I can assure you there's no way that is going to happen. In fact I knew I wouldn't break her after the first two minutes!

So far the gearbox has been fine, only this morning did I have a little trouble getting it to engage gear. I'll give it a few more days running around and then report on this in more detail, I'm hoping to learn very quickly about the ECVT gearbox and put things right, because she's worth it :p.
Only other thing that needs attention is the o/s/f wing, the paint has gone funny two years after a repair, so will need repainting. The rest of the bodywork and paintwork is so good though that I think a newly painted panel will blend in very well.

Right, I'm off to work in her now, and hope that every traffic light I approach turns red , these Selectas are such good fun at the traffic light drag race. :D:D:D

Traffic light racing? :)

Are the Selecta Panda's quite a quick little number?

They go like s*!t off a shovel!!! :D

lovely little thing, so glad someone rescued it, I was watching it on the classifieds but way too far away and I already have one more than the wife thinks I should..

:yeahthat:

Didn't want it going to the scrapper but wasn't in a posittion to save her.

Glad you did Vern (y)

Tis all true Alex, you'd love it! (y)

0 to 30 is almost instantaneous, this gives you a head start over just about anything. A powerful car will rain you in eventually but not before you've given them something to think about. :D I bought this car to save it from oblivion, but will be very sorry to see it go once it's sorted.

Well after a short trip this morning, it was left till 5pm, when again I had the same problem as earlier.... I select drive or reverse but when I go to pull away it's as if it's still in neutral and the engine just revs. Sue and Brian told me to switch the engine off and try again. Eventually, after a few goes, it will pull away normally, then work fine for the rest of the day, it's just when it's been left for a long time. Anybody got any ideas from this?

What is happening sounds 100% electrical.

So will it let you select the gear selector position as usual (with no resistance) but just not go when your foot is applied to the accelerator?

That's right, if it was a manual car it would be like sitting there with it in gear but keeping your foot on the clutch.

Although it was fine first time today it has done it a few times since, this has allowed me to experiment a little. I've found that it's not necessary to turn the ignition off and on again, I tried waiting with a few revs on, and after about ten seconds it's away. So it would seem that the fault is an occasional delay in the engagement of the clutch, once it has engaged though, the car drives exactly as it should for the rest of the trip, regardless of how far you go.

My first port of call would be to check the plug for the brushes, and perhaps clean up the contacts.

Should be able to locate the wiring, as it goes under starter (nice and accessable on the side of the engine on the Selecta as it goes through gearbox), track it back to main wiring loom. Before you get there you should find the plug (its a fairly big thing iirc).

Plug looks similar to the one in this pic (black with the blue strap stay thing), but I think is just one colour (black)
