just out of curiosity, how does the fabric come off to allow access to the seat's innards? anyone know?

well its sewn as you can from pics so if you know a really good seamstress then your'e in but you would probably have to destroy seat, well certainly the fabrics to get inside it

hmmm... annoying. My Cinq ones used to be hooked on little rails... sometimes I really wish I had a cinq again  -so much less problematic!

I have a 2002 Seicento Sporting - had the same problem working out how to remove the front head restraints. Then I noticed a small hole in the rear of the fitting through which the headrests fit onto the seat. I got two bits of sturdy wire (cut up a coathanger) and when the wire was inserted into these holes from the rear of the seat, felt a catch give. Hey presto the head rest was off!

Hope it helps.

Awesome! - gonna give this a whirl later today, pretty sure I've seen the holes you refer to, so fingers crossed this will work for me too :D

One thing I noticed, was that you have to slide the "coathanger tool" straight - I mention this because to look at the hole you would thing that you just push it in, but it slides to the left in a straight line down the left hand side of the pole on the headrest - which in turn releases a little catch which you can see at the front of the hole once the headrest is removed.

Next job is to find a set of mk1 Sei abarth headrests and dye them black ;)

Well - found a knackered cinq in a local scrappies yesterday, and managed to nab the headrests out of it.
Was a little tough, and involved cutting the seat unfortunately.

Having got them home I discovered that the metal tubing is too small in diameter and length (although the length is much less of an issue).
On a positive note, I now have the rubber insert that goes in the square-ish (which on a sporting is actually two rectangles) hole in the middle of the headrest (the padded bit that your head actually rests against).

I think the rule of thumb when looking for the replacement headrests, is that the height adjustable ones (from the likes of the sx models) seem to be the safer bet - which is my next quest - to find a set of those ;)

My only query about all this is really with the rear headrests - is it legal to remove them?
