No, they're not, but certain batteries did seem to me to be the same.
Varta were a German family business until about 15 years or so ago when they were purchased by Johnson Controls, a USA HVAC company who then, in partnership with a French company, invented several features that are in the Varta branded and Bosch branded blue or 4 star, silver or 5 star and AGM batteries. Maybe also the 'Stop Start' batteries.
These Bosch batteries seem to be simply a re-badge of some Varta.
Cheapest for me last July for a Varta Silver (5 Star) was a high street shop in Halifax with an on-line shop, I've forgotten the name. Better that Tanya and Megastore.
