Seicento Seicento Abarth - Van Aaken High Boost Turbo

Introduction

So i guess its about time to create my own thread on this car, only had it 4 years  Alot of people on here will know the car but we had alot of new cento members recently alot of which won't have seen her before.

Its originally from Jersey, it was ordered new from fiat by a doctor from Jersey who specified all options (bar the rarer wheels). So it has factory remote central locking, Air-con (apparently its rare to have AC & a sunroof but it has both) & ABS brakes. It was then delivered to Van Aaken new who fitted their high boost turbo kit to it.

It was then bought by a policeman i think and brought over to the main land. It was then bought by Donna on here and then Jamie86 on here (don't think either post on here anymore though) & then finally i bought it off Jamie.

It was at this point still not UK registered (despite having been here for at least 24 months!) So i got it registered which meant i had to lose the cool numberplate it had :(

Well to pictures then:

The day i bought it, getting a MOT - she passed with no advisories :)

On the way back to York with her, stopped in services. Note the cool numberplate.

Back home, next to Black Betty, the cinq JustAndy bought a few months back

Then we jump forward a few years to 2010, I haven't really driven it much, she only comes out to play in summer, these are just before she went for her MOT in 2010

Notice in that pic she still has oem exhaust!!

that cover thing was fitted by the first owner, the doctor, to hide all the medical stuff that was carried around the island in it, i like it so kept it.

She passed the MOT again no real issues, just had to clean up the handbrake actuator that year as it was sticking (well known common problem amongst us cento'ers).

So went for a razz about with a lad with a mini, a seicento looks massive next to a old mini! lol

And then here's some pics from last summer - she only did 50 miles or so last summer so not many pics

Amd now for some recent pics. Been getting her ready for the MOT this year over last month or so - the old stock exhaust finally fell to pieces so had to get a new one.
So she stuck her arse in the air so i could get underneath.

And the front (she was like this for a couple of weeks and the pikeys where i live would have had the wheels so they came off as well)

And bought some shiny pipes - intend to get a full custom exhaust from downpipe back at some point with a larger bore than stock but funds didn't allow for that yet.

And that brings us upto date. I have many bits to go on the car but i will keep this thread updated now its here.

MOT in the morning. Wish her luck!!

Questions, comments etc welcome.
hahaha, i get - do you wanna swap for...'insert random car here' - all the time.

And Molly kind of has a new owner now, although technically its still mine and outside my house. I'm moving in like a few days but my house is not packed and all my cars are still outside - haven't even opened the shed door yet - thought of trying to sort through and get rid of most of it scares the b'jesus out of me to tell the truth. Lets say, without turning this into a for sale thread, I really will consider any offers made at this point.

And no, there is no real updates on Marella atm, it still runs etc - needs a wire on the alternator connecting up still and a few jubilee clips tightening or changing for new and the wheels on front swapping back to the ones with tyres with air in and it could be driven. Gonna have to do something about this soon i think haha.

it is indeed sold already, i have already taken deposit. I had to get it MOT'd etc as part of the sale. I will only have it a few more weeks tops but i intend to do some miles in her before she leaves as i do love her ever so much - i think i might cry when she leaves.

I drove her down to my new house last night, around 200 or so miles, give or take. She ran perfectly, and even had a load of people swooning over her at some services :)

I took some pictures with my decent camera this morning of her sat next to her sister Betty, but now my computer keeps crashing when i use an 'open file' dialogue box and it doesn't seem to make any difference what browser i use, and it does it on all websites. Not sure what's going on there but its getting me angry i can tell thee.

right, taken me ages to manage to upload photo's - its clearly my laptop and not the forum though.. So here you go, SeiT and 16vCinq back next to each other once more :D

I have mostly de-stickered the seiT now, it still has VanAaken stickers front and rear, it has a 'Marella Agnelli' one on the front bumper still, and the 'Bazinga' on the sunroof but not on the back anymore, and removed the YorkshireITALIA stickers as well.

Looking good.

I read your thread back and I know its too late now but you could have replaced the broken adjuster with a threaded bar - different threads each end with some rod ends, I did the same on one of my cars

So now you have the tub and a 16v side by side. Which would you reccomend and why?
Depends what you want the car for... In my opinion a 16v is good blast for a regularly driven car or a daily - although having done it i personally still think a well tuned 1242 8v is a better engine, would be more work to get it to the point it could keep up with a 16v one though when it comes to out and out speed. I dunno, their is not much i can say is wrong with the 16v really but its a bit rubbish low down and nothing much happens below 4k revs which is fine blasting about but i still think the rest of the time, around town etc (i.e. most driving) the extra low down torque of a 8v makes them a nicer day to day drive.

If you want something that feels really special, the turbo wins hands down IMO. It feels epic and it makes magical vroom-tisch noises :D But as a daily it uses alot of petrol when compared to a 16v, its more highly strung and requires alot more servicing etc. You got to remember that the 16v is basically a near stock motor dropped into a lighter car whereas the turbo is an engine pushing double (and in many cases more than double) the power it had from factory - as such it needs more pampering and is more likely to break etc etc. That said the seiT has only ever broken down to the point of not running at all once and that was due to that fuel pump - clearly a fake walbro when held next to a genuine item - as such i don't really count that as a proper breakdown.

So its horses for courses really - i like boost, its life enrichment but i have no desire to boost a 16v before someone suggests that. But i feel i may have to build another turbo cento when i don't have one anymore lol.

Yep i could have made something up, or even just welded the original mount that snapped but at the end of the day, the AC was a cool option, but an option that was never used. I see little point in having a big heavy system on the car in a country where AC is only ever really needed for a few days a year - on top of the fact if it is that hot i tend to have sunroof open, windows open and heater on as its like a 2nd rad to keep the engine cool, its never overheated before but it makes me feel better

Sorry, I wasn't having a dig. I didnt mean to offend.

I completely understand why you've removed it. I would have taken it off too. I was just letting you know of an easy option if you ever got stuck again.

I have been driving a friends 1.6 16v civic and can totally relate to not much happening below 4k. You have to drop it a gear (sometimes 2!) if you want any sudden acceleration whilst cruising. Whereas even with my old 1.1 8v it pulled fairly well low down. Not nearly as well as a tub I imagine. I haven't been in a 1.2 8v sei, i have driven the same engined punto and it is much more relaxed to drive. I guess with the lighter shell it would feel even better.

I guess you say though it is horses for courses, a turbo cento is something special and yours appears to be a very good example. I am sure whoever gets it will be extremely pleased. I have no doubt I will trial most variations of engine swaps as I am well and truly hooked by the cento bug.

Well the day has been and gone, i don't have a turbo sei anymore...

It feels so weird going outside and her not being there, you kinda get used to things being there after 6 years.

And I can confirm she already has had quite a few changes done, but its not my place to say or show you guys anything anymore - hopefully she will be at Stanford next week so you can see her there.

There's not a lot more power, but the torque spread is much wider. I used to go from second to fifth in town (in petrol conservation mode), something I don't even do in the MR2 turbo (although it needs more petrol conservation!).
