The seats, or at least the driver’s seat / driving position is one of the few things I’m a bit disappointed with on my 3 door JTD. (The others are road noise on certain surfaces; the lack of somewhere to put my left foot and having to manually switch the stereo off - moan over!)
To me, the 3 door feels like the sort of car you want to sit low in. When I collected my car from the dealer I lowered the seat and steering column and drove off. However after a while I found the position uncomfortable – the base of my back was hurting. After trying different seat position combinations I realised the problem is that the when you lower the seat, the angle of the base merely changes, so that when it is at its lowest, there is a big gap between the base and the back of the seat. This causes strain on your back – or at least it does on mine!
I’ve found the most comfortable position is with the seat base quite high but that means I feel as if I’m sitting “on” the seat rather than “in” it, if you get what I mean.
Like ActiveMatt, I also get the feeling that the base sinks down over time and I have to raise it back up again with a couple of pulls on the lever. I was putting this down to the car trying to tell me that I needed to go on a diet (true!), but maybe it’s a common problem?
Are there any modifications / recalls etc relating to the seats?
