Is there a way of disabling the seatbelt alarm?
I find it intrusive and un-necessary. A simple warning light would be enough.

I imagine finding the alarm sounder and cutting its wires.

Thanks,
Mick

This is a serious question, please don't make fun of me.

Yes, what are seatbelt alarms for?
A simple warning light would be enough.

We have a long drive in front of the house to the road. Just over 100yds, and nothing posh at all, just a long drive as our house is built right away from the road. We drive away, down to the gate, open it, drive through, close it, then drive onto the road putting our seatbelts on of course!

This scenario is repeated the other way round on coming home.

I have to go slowly up and down the drive so the damned alarm doesn't go off, and we're not fitting our seatbelts just to drive 100yds on our own property.

Come on guys, give me some serious advice please.

Regards,
Mick

Sorry if I took the Micky, but there is a solution.
For years we lived on a farm with a long track. I clipped the seat belt into place BEFORE I sat on the seat. No alarms and no probs.
Just drove to the gate sitting ON the belt, then released it as I got out to open the gate.
Does that suggestion help you?

That's ok! :)

Yes, it does, but I've already thought of it. :)
Another idea is to get hold of an old seatbelt (or two) and cut out the buckle to fit in the slot.

Other than that, where is the actual alarm?
If I could get at it, I'd disconnect it. Far simpler than using software.

Regards,
Mick.

It's a safety feature for your safety ! If you were to alter it in any way and have an accident, I would say that you would quickly find your insurance wouldn't be worth the paper its written on.. They look for every way to avoid paying out !

Not been smart but rather then come up with all sorts of work-arounds why don't you just put it on? Takes about 2 seconds and less hassle then leaning in to car and fastening before you sit in. Either that or just put up with the beep. I wouldn't be a fan of disabling safety warnings, the car is not intelligent enough to know if you are on your drive or on the road, disabling buzzer would also disable passenger seat warning - you may not be aware that a passenger has not belted up - an elderly person or whatever. Leave well alone IMO.

and you think the insurance company is smart enough to tell if the software of a written off car has been modified? good luck with that!

This is a simple question and I don't need any lecturing about it, thank you.

This is the first car I have ever owned that has an audible seatbelt announcement. Other cars manage full well with a light on the dash, even a Fiat 500 has a warning light on the dash, and I'm not suggesting I stop all warnings, just that awfully shrill beeping. If it were a legal necessity, all cars would have it ....... but they don't.

It isn't needed, it is a pointless sound, and I find it terribly annoying.

In the dim and distant future, my Fiat 500 will be sold and by that time the beeper alarm could easily be defective, just like other electrical stuff could be. The new owner may not know it should be audible, and I doubt very much indeed if an insurance company would care anything about it. All they would want to know was if you were wearing a seatbelt or not.

Our 2001 95,000 mile Clio has electrical problems - the side-light warning lamp on the dash doesn't work, the fuel gauge reads well off the scale, and the rear washer pump doesn't operate.

Please bare with me on this, and if no-one can point me in the direction to where the Fiat 500 seatbelt beeper is, I'll have to investigate myself. I promise I'll tell you where it is and how to disconnect it. :)

Best wishes,
Mick.

For those who care to read the owners manual, it states that the seat belt warning can be disabled by the dealer.

Now that DOES make me laugh!
It also suggests that a: The warning is advisory but not compulsory, and b: It is probably a simple software mod.

But I still hold the view that it's put there for a very good reason and the reason does not go away simply by disabling it.
Learning to live with this minor annoyance is clearly the wisest course.

Don't even try Mick ;) The buzzer that does the seat belt warning does all the chimes and warnings including the indicator 'tick'. Every car I've bought since 2005 has had a seatbelt warning. Your dealer may be willing to disable it, mine didn't want to.
