Hi all,

We have just bought an ex network rail fiat doblo van and was looking to get an extra seat or 2 installed in the back ideally to either side as there is already some sort of small built in boxed off area (if that makes sense)
the seats would have to be some sort of foldable seats so we can make use of the rest of the room when the seats arent being used so can anyone recommend any seats or anywhere to look to help us with this please.

Kind regards Mark

Generally speaking to comply with safety/insurance and MOT laws most have to have all suitable fittings already in the vehicle as in chassis and floor mounts for securely bolting seats and seat belt arrangements.
I have a 2010 Fiat Doblo 1.6 Maxi van that has no such fittings so just a van, I have a 2010 Fiat Doblo 1.6 MJ which is described in V5c as Light Goods Vehicle/panel van which has all the fittings, three person rear seats, seatbelt mounts and is described in V5c as 5 seats, has glass in side sliding doors and rear panels etc, I also have a 2014 Vauxhall Combo 1.3 MJ which has the rears seats and seat belts etc. but no rear glass sliding doors etc. which I assume means it will be described as a "crewbus" if I ever get the V5c from DVLA:(
My point being there is a wide variety of choices some are "badge engineered" Vauxhall Combo derivatives.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. It already has a thick metal secure floor in the vehicle so i think that would be enough to secure the seats to the floor and i already have someone who has said they can fit the seats but i just need to buy them. After what your saying about the insurance though im not sure its worth it and could put someones life at risk especially if its a family member and we had an accident with something happening to them i couldnt live with myself

Probably safest option.
Where the vehicle has the option then the factory mounting points are all there to secure the seats and the seat belt mountings etc.
Around 40 years ago a garage I worked for sold a little Japanese work van to a guy and he requested we fit the two rows of seats he supplied for his large young family, I made it as strong as possible but was not happy to do it.
Nowadays such a thing would fall foul of Mot and other safety Regs.
