Yep, never install display drivers....they are a relic from years gone by....never needed anymore.
As other have stated you will need to intall the graphics card drivers in order to get the proper resolutions. Also you
will need the drivers installed to identify the card in device manager
Reboot the PC, see if it mentions a gfx card make and model before the BIOS apperars.
If not, find the PC model number and look it up.
To find out if its interated, just see where the monitor plugs in....on an expansion slot on the rear, or along with the usb, serial, ps2, etc.
Odds on it will either be an nVidia, ati (amd) or intel chipset.
nVidia have pretty much a generic driver package, so install the forceware drivers etc. and see if it works. If not, do the same for the ati(amd) package.
If neitehr work its probablt an integrated intel chipset.
