Screen Resoloution After Format.

It will be the drivers for your video card that you need to install. 800x600 will be the default resolution.
Hope that helps,
Alan

What Graphics card are you running? Is it a Dell computer too, as screens dont generally use drivers, you just plug and play with them :chin:

any ideas? just got back from driving my mates van for 2 hours to pick furniture up for my mam, get back after spending 4 hours backing everything up and formatting the PC, all i get it, the screen size isn't right it's no good. grrr

forget trying to install monitor drivers - i doubt thats your problem. even if it was, the generic higher-res monitor drivers should work. you need to get ahold of the graphics card drivers first, then go from there.

hmm thanks for that, only other disc is the operating system CD that i used to install XP. everything to do with the PC is in 1 folder and i can't see anything else, i expected a CD for everything on the motherboard

what model is the PC? do you anything with the name and model of graphic card on it?

ill have a look, see if i can find the right driver...

Have you put in a new Graphix card or is it the one built in to the motherboard.

Look in the device manager for the name, then we will be able to track down the drivers.

it's built in AFAIK unless it's seprate as standard but i don't think it is, 2 mins ill check the device manager, i think i was in it before and it wasn't listed, might have been when i was on with the wireless card though

device manager isn't picking it up, just code 28, need to reinstall drivers, tried that through the monitor disc just incase but no luck.

and it's a dimension 1100, had the computer upside down and everything and it was on the power button

Yep, never install display drivers....they are a relic from years gone by....never needed anymore.

As other have stated you will need to intall the graphics card drivers in order to get the proper resolutions. Also you will need the drivers installed to identify the card in device manager

Reboot the PC, see if it mentions a gfx card make and model before the BIOS apperars.

If not, find the PC model number and look it up.

To find out if its interated, just see where the monitor plugs in....on an expansion slot on the rear, or along with the usb, serial, ps2, etc.

Odds on it will either be an nVidia, ati (amd) or intel chipset.

nVidia have pretty much a generic driver package, so install the forceware drivers etc. and see if it works. If not, do the same for the ati(amd) package.

If neitehr work its probablt an integrated intel chipset.

Good luck with it (y) It'll be a piece of **** once you know the model number of the pc :)
