Opting for a new car simply because you are told to by your Government when your current reliable, worthless and cheap to run car is doing just fine is like turkeys voting for christmas. Did you hear that the number of purchases of new cars in conjunction with the scrappage scheme has been very low because people don't believe the scheme is good value for money probably because it isn't. You'd have to have rocks in your head to think it is.

It's all very well expressing your opinion but unless you can back it up with facts and figures, it's irrelevant.

Show where these figures don't make sense?

FIAT Bravo 1.4 Active

OTR Price £13,255
Government Incentive £1,000
FIAT ECO-Bonus £2,260
Offer Price £9,995
Deposit £0
47 Monthly Payments £179
Optional Final Payment (inc £285 fee) £3,291.68
Total Amount Payable £11,704.68
Excess Mileage (per mile) £0.06
APR Typical 6.5%

£3260 off list price and 6.5% APR zero down is undeniably a good offer. That's fact supported by figures. Even with the interest back on, you're still £1500+ better off.

Of course, if you don't want to buy a new car, don't. Simple really. And therefore, you can talk all the ****** you like, but let those considering it make their own minds up without insulting their intelligence and better judgement.

Its good scheme but only for the right car, but not the Bravo.

For example, you can get a high spec 'Dynamic' Fiat Bravo 1.4 16V for £10,750 OTR, the Scrappage Scheme, base model spec 'Active' Fiat Bravo 1.4 16V is £9,995.

Now the 'Dynamic' price is only £755 more than the scrappage scheme 'Active'. If you sold your car privately you'll probably easily get £755 for a good condition Bravo. That means you could get a Dynamic for the same price or less.

Add on top a bit of haggling on the price and you'll get the car a lil bit cheaper.

Shows the scrappage scheme is not always good for some.

Well, seeing as every individual will have different circumstances I find it difficult to accept the notion of it being poor value for money.

Maybe to some it will, probably the people who simply couldn't afford a new car anyway will claim it to be poor value for money at not worth it. However, they would say that as lets be honest it's a better excuse than "I can't afford it". Sad world we live in lol.

But to some, I'm sure this will be a good deal and give them an opportunity to afford that new car that may of just been out of reach originally.

I half agree with you MG, but i think the true value of the scrappage scheme comes into play with cheap low spec new cars, like the Panda, Punto, corsa, micra, etc in the £5000 - £9000 range.

ok who is up for this scheme

1) car manufacturers have put their priuces up so a 13k car is now 15k
so wiht a scrappeg scheem it doesnt go down much, secondly tits not possible to haggle with the scheme but with the scheme
so you dont really get much off
also a one year value drop especially the 3 year depreciation

so whats the point>

(After deciphering that last message somehow......)

Firstly, can you show us evidence of dealers raising their prices after the scheme was announced by similar values to the discount offered by the scheme?

Secondly, the scheme can be used to buy cars that will save you money in the first 3 years due to no MOT, decent warranty covering most problems and in the main, reduced road fund licence as most cars being offered under the scheme are subject to the £35 tax bracket.

It's all swings and roundabouts.

Those articles and those price rises were in February and April, some while before the Chancellor announced the Scrappage Scheme. They raised prices to combat the fall in the value of £ Sterling, not as a way to avoid the scrappage discount.

So, I'm sorry, you have still failed to provide evidence of manufacturers raising prices to counter the discount offered by the scrappage scheme.

At the very least, read the articles you offer up us evidence before making yourself look foolish.

my bravo is on a 2000 x. so not bothered by the scheme. and i dont thinbk buying a brand new car is worth it. you lose value once u driven it off the fore court. i would rather buy upto a year old as you get the perks of a new car but pay less :). in some cases a lot less. looked on auto trader jus before the grande came out, and the punto before, you could get for around 5/6k. all pre registered.

Roberto, again correct.

Any raised prices have been due to outside factors such as currency effects not the scrappage scheme.
