My EVO passed its MOT, the tester said "there's a couple of advisories", which is something of an understatement.

There's some of my handy work in there...see if you can guess what it is lol.

They're all fixable , so why not fix them for next time.?

A bit of underseal, , paint (or replacement) for your springs, new brake discs (and pads) , replace some lenses and fix your oil leak

By next year those advisories could well become points for a fail

For a 19 year old car most of those can be expected.

That’s a fair list of advisories but nothing terminal.

I don’t think fiat ever built these to still be going 19 years later, and most of the grandes of this age are being scraped now

There isn't anything terminal here which is good. I'm putting as many miles on this car as I can in order to save my GP which is older, but in better condition. Then when my 500x is on the road I'll continue on that track. I wonder how much longer it'll last ...

Waxoyl (spray or just liquid in a tin to paint on)

Or Dinitrol
I've just re-read your earlier post, and you seem to be saying that if i paint my springs (on the car) its likely to not have that advisory next year, is that correct?

I'm not exactly sure how MOTs work regarding rust/corrosion. I won't be replacing the shocks and springs, or taking them off the car, because if I do that the shocks will fail, then new shocks and springs will move the suspension sufficiently to cause the axle bushes to become noisy or fail (I have previous experience of that which i don't want to repeat).

You'll have to brush them down with a wire brush beforehand, they're not actually a fail item anyway per se... unless they are actually broken. but if you give them a spruce up with a wire brush and some paint , they'll not only last longer but the whole area looks like you're looking after the car in general.

Instead of trying to guess what they might fail something on, check the whole list of stuff they actually check on https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-ins...ivate-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles

If there's visible rust/corrosion they can check its integrity, if they can't see they can't go poking about looking for trouble, unless there's a hint of visible.

I've had a look through that website. Its very authorative, as ever testers have a lot of discretion what they pass or fail, but this website does take a lot of the mystery out of it.

I will clean up the underside with waxoyl and paint the springs, it'll be relatively easy.

Them's the rules, of course it'll be authorative :)

That's precisely what I was trying to point out to you, if you know the rules, you can check those areas, it takes all the mystery out of it

I’m guessing it’s the rear exhaust that’s been repaired with a Monster can, some exhaust repair paste and a couple of jubilee clips
