I can't believe what a tw*t i've been. I got an N reg cinq back in november with only 45 thousand on the clock. And its nto a bad little runner, and i said if ti got me through the winter once it got nicer id give it a full service.
So today with the sun shinning i set about replacing spark plugs etc.

The third plug from the left has come out at an angle and pulled the first couple of threads with it so now the new plug wont fit in.

My dad told me about a procedure where they can fit a new insert into the spark plug socket. But you have to remove the cylinder head first.

My other option is a spark plug tap. This seems like a good idea as i really need to sort it ASAP. But does anyone know if they work and by the looks of it i reckon i need a 12mm tap with a 1.25mm pitch on it. Can anyone confirm this or tell me other wise?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

12mm tap sounds correct. Best to try a tap first before you go down the insert method.
The biggest problem with the tap is getting it to go in straight, so spend plenty of time pointing it in the right direction.

The thread is 1.25, but I'm not sure whether they are 12 or 14mm. But, don't use a tap -- they're very expensive and too sharp: you can buy thread chaser especially made for this job for well less. Penty of grease on the chaser to catch any swarf.

As to inserts, a bronze insert is your best bet, but a second hand head may be cheaper. Depends who you know..............
