I've got some I believe but can't remember who with
National Savings & Investments - who else could it be :D

I have had some from birth, around £42 worth :ROFLMAO: - although I have won. Max holding is around £30k and if you invest the full amount, your winnings each year [tax free as well] should at least equal what you would get on deposit. Plus of course the chance to win big :)

I have premium bonds, if you have a lot invested then you tend to win more, and you can either keep these winnings or invest them into more bonds up to the 30k limit

You have to buy them in lots of at least £100 though

I definitely would not just ring up your bank. As people have already said, they will just try and sell you their own products. You’ll probably just end up with a fixed rate or savings account which will have poor interest rate as things are at the moment, and if thats what you want then you could probably find a better rate elsewhere. Plus you will probably just end up with someone who doesn’t really know anything. My mate has just got a job with a high street bank advising people but he has no previous experience or knowledge in this area. They will just present their products.

Premium bonds wise, as has already been said they don’t increase in value but you are in with a decent chance of winning some money. So I wouldn’t advice against them but would not put a significant amount of money in them.

If you are looking for a fixed rate fixed term savings account I would try HiSave. Also, get the Sunday Times and they have a page in the money section which tells you all the best interest rates currently.

My recommendation at the moment and where I have most of my money right now is in ISA investment funds. Tax free up to around £11000. I currently have some money in this one which is doing very well at the moment https://www.fidelity.co.uk/investor/research-funds/fund-supermarket/factsheet/summary.page?idtype=ISIN&fundid=GB0033031484&UseProxy=Yes&fundname=Invesco%20Perpetual%20High%20Income%20Acc&UserChannel=Direct

In the long term, shares will almost always out perform any interest rates you will get but just make sure you keep your money invested for a while. The good thing about these funds is that your money will be spread which takes a lot of the risk out of it. It does however mean you are charged a management fee annually but I have never lost any money due to this. Got about 5 different funds and have always made profit after this fee.
