New out yesterday suggests that insurance companies are piling on the premiums if caught driving while on a mobile phone.

where as research shows that 17-25 year olds are most likely to use a phone while driving.

its these drivers who will be stung most by higher premiums and also only allowed 6 penalty points in first 2 years so the best advice to save yourself a fortune and your license is to put that phone down.

Doesnt help individuals, unfortunately this is another one of them someone doing something to spoil it for everyone.

TBH if people are still dumb enough to hold a phone to their ear they should personally get stung on insurance. Especially the countless drivers ive seen in brand new mercs/audi/bmw's who still do it even if their car has built in bluetooth...

Yeah, holding the phone to my ear is a hassle anyway, never mind whilst driving!

Some of those new cars have amazing systems, I went in a C-Class that had a brilliant system for the driver to hook up his iPhone and control it from the screen in the dash.

I took the missus to a local shopping center(http://www.bentleybridge.co.uk) earlier. When we were leaving I spotted this. Woman driver, using her phone selected reverse instead of 1st.

Want to save yourselves some money, do as I did and drive the missus to the shops yourself ... ;)

About time insurance companies did the decent thing & started stinging the idiots instead of upping the premiums of those of us who actually don't cost them anything.
Heard on the radio today something about the government debating whiplash claims. The newsreader said that each and every one of us pays an extra £90 because of insurance companies paying out whiplash claims.

If you want to drive like a nob, your insurance premiums should reflect this

One of underwriters has sent a recent communication to us stating that CU80 offences will be loaded for as much as drink driving convictions, this particular underwriter has has several high value claims which are directly linked to customers using a mobile device when driving.

I think all responsible motorists should blast their horn when they see someone on the phone, if everyone did this it would make it almost impossible for people to hear, so will adopt hands free or actually bother to use the onboard bluetooth, or better still pull off the main road and stop being morons (y)

I think the responsible thing to do would be for the law to be changed so that every vehicle has some form of dashcam installed, retro fit or factory fit & there should be a reward offered for people who submit footage of muppets driving & using a mobile.
