Guys & Dolls I need your advice. After 4 years of loyal service my P reg ELX has finally fell foul to a rusty floor pan, leading to a failed MOT, desipte her stunning looks and fully working electrics!!!.

My W/end only has 61,000 genuine mileage and an MOT will cost £300 (welding & brake hoses). Is it worth it? Or should I start over with a newer car and scrap / break my beloved Marea on E-bay? Has anyone had a similar situation and was the breaking up a worth while venture?

better the devil you know m8 get it fixed if it's a goodun stick with it....i would..

I would get it done, and pay more attention to rustproofing in future. there was another thread on here about this position corroding on a W/E. That man was able to do his own welding as I am. When the MGB needed some repairs to the rear wing it cost me £2 into the teafund for the 18 gauge galvanised steel I used. This year I have blown over the underneath of the Marea with Waxoyl where the fctory finish was starting to fray. cost about £10. I did get an advisory on brake pipes lst year so swapped them all out for copper/nickel at a cost of £100. You will not motor in comfort for a year for less than that.

sound advice mucca where can i get my 2000 jtd 110 w/e est wax oiled..and roughly how much does it cost..andy

I suppose this is where a lifetime of collecting kit comes into focus. Waxoyl has it's limitaions but it's good value, about £30 for 5 liters which will do about 3 cars. I dilute it with white spirit to spray it and use my spray gun which I have owned since the 70s and it doesnt owe me a penny. Where the area is easily accesible I just put some in a container neat and brush it on. For the MG I use Dinitrol 3125 for closed sections it's the dogs, but expensive. I would buy a cheap spray gun, it will cost you less than having it done and you will wonder how you lived without it.
