Technical Rusting Wheel nuts

Yes they ARE covered under warranty. My 1.9 Mjet nuts were replaced at 26 months last November, along with the rusting locking wheel nuts. I 'phoned Fiat Customer Services UK - they did not even ask for an inspection or photographs - they just booked me into my local dealer. When you get the new ones, remove them one at a time & coat them with "Waxoyl" otherwise they will also rust!! All Fiats/Alfa Romeos/ Maserati's & even Ferrari's have this problem. The Italians just paint bare metal but the Germans anodise there nuts:eek:!

That's good to know...

Not sure whether wheel bolts are anodised?

Quality car manufacturers anodise their wheel nuts. The Italians don't because of the strange mindset that anybody who buys their cars lives in a nice warm Mediterranean climate...... Despite the fact that they export to horribly cold & wet countries. That's why your Fridge/Freezer/Washing M/C packs up so quickly. Nearly 95% of "White Goods" in the world are made in Italy. Fact. They start work at 0700 & take a wine fuelled 2 hour lunch break at 1200. The afternoons production is a disaster - but they don't care. Hence the disaster for the Ferrari F1 team yesterday after losing their British Engineering Director, Ross Brawn.

Avoid Italian products like the plague. Most are copies robbed from somebody else, but when you confront an Italian with the truth, he will break down in floods of tears.... Not exactly a man(n). Italian Wasters one & all!

chill out. you on an 'Italian' car forum remember.

"You are" or "You're" is the correct spelling young man. Yes, I'm on an Italian car forum, trying to help little wastes of space like yourself. I give up & leave you to dig your own hole.

I think that the -17 year old clawliger deserves sympayhy;).

Jeeez....what you doing on here if you have such a downer on the Italians?

Still not convinced wheel bolts or nuts are anodised...steel isn't anodised period.. And I don't suppose my bolts are made from Aluminium looking at the brown rust all over them...lol

What can I say? Your Fiat wheel nuts are made of recycled steel & a brand new set will rust in one winter, as will those of my last AR Brera, Ferrari etc. Quality wheel nuts/bolts are made of aluminium content & anodised. That's why you pay peanuts for a GPS. Buy a quality car (which you pay a premium for) & you get what you pay for. Thats life:confused:.

Aluminium wheel bolts? They'd be weak as **** surely?

Have you owned a GPS?

My bolts went rusty and were replaced under warranty, looking at them
they were a dull silvery grey which indicates (supposedly) zinc plated, which when it comes to rustproofing is the cheapest option. The replacements appeared to be of better quality but are now showing signs of corrosion again.

Its nothing to due with climate and what country the car is sold in. Its down to FIAT balancing quality against cost. They could have choosen more expensive cadmium or chrome plated bolts that have a far greater resistance to corrosion but instead they went with the cheapest option and took a chance. They have obviously not addressed the problem because the replacement bolts are still zinc plated and will in time corrode again, probably when the car is out of warranty and its no longer there problem.

BTW...for the "armchair-engineer" (or is it Mike????) claiming that some makers annodise wheel nuts. You are talking BS............steel cannot be annodised, it can be passivated but this is not the same as annodising.
