Anybody run a Fiorino Diesel on veg oil?

Any modifications required?

Just wondered what with increasing fuel prices etc. Did notice you could get 3 litres of veg oil in Tescos for 2.95.

I dont really do high enough miles to warrant it but thought it could be an interesting experiment? Bearing in mind I wouldnt really want to damage my daily driver (n)

I have a 1994 Fiat Uno with the non-turbo 1.7 diesel lump in it, which I believe is used in the Fiorino's as well.

I ran my Uno on (commercially made) Bio-Diesel through the whole of last summer. I ran it on 100% Bio-diesel (B100), as it stands now Morrison's diesel contains 30% Bio-diesel (B30) as standard.

I didn't have any issues with it, and have considered using veg oil, but if you want to use it straight (100%) you need to pre-heat it, and the engine, which means starting on mineral diesel (or B100), and then switching to pure veg oil, then switching back before turning off as the engine will not start again once cold. This requires a secondary tank and switching gear.

I have never just mixed veg oil in with mineral diesel, I have heard others say they have, but with B100 averaging 20p less per litre, and having to meet BS/EN standards, its a safer bet!

My previous job included selling B100 to the public (pump delivered into cars), so I do have some knowledge on it.

I have run the following vehicles on it personally:

-1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.7TD (on B100)
-1994 Fiat Uno (on B100)
-1985 Land Rover (with 1994 Discovery 200TDi engine fitted) (on a mix of about B75)

At work we also ran 2x 3 year old Sprinter vans, and a forklift on it.

BUT, please note, not all cars, especially newer cars, can be run on it. And it is a tad thicker than mineral diesel, so if you have a lot of muck in the tank, it will drag it into the filter. Change the filter if that happens, and you are good to go!
