I've now covered 1200 lovely lovely miles in my 500 by diesel and other than the blue and me having some wobbles, it's been faultless.
The engine was really tight to start with and has now bedded in and become looser, which leads me to the question, 18,000 miles on this oil? Seems like alot to me? Has anyone decided to change early? There has to be metal in the oil no?

18,000 or 1 year - whichever comes earlier.

Never hurts to change the oil once a year.

the 1.3 will tell you when it needs an oil change based on your driving style, or you can do it at the first service like most of us did.

I cant imagine there would be any metal in the oil that you can see or feel unless things are going very wrong.

It turns black very quick but thats to be expected and doesnt indicate any oil deteriation has happened.

It nvr hurts to change oil but its likely to be doing you more good than the engine getting it done so soon.

With the DPF doing its thing you'll be getting an oil change soon enough, personally I wouldn't bother, the filter is there to capture particles so you'll be fine. Save your pennies :)

oil technology and engine technology have changed greatly since the "running in oil change" that used to be ness... I bought my GP 1.9 sporting 2.5 years ago, and have stuck to the 18k changes, now up to 90,800 miles and it still drives like new, engine/turbo/clutch/flywheel/gearbox ect all OE and no problems, never had to top it up with oil, I fully expect it to keep going, can't see why not.....

I had a citroen with 20,000 miles service intervals, and ran that from new to 155,000 miles, and the engine was as sweet as new at that mileage too ... never had to top up that with oil either!
