Hi everybody

What a bad experience I just had...
Took the car to Thames Croydon as they are my nearest Fiat dealer.

The RT3 has a poor sound and bass/treble settings do not act upon the sound at all. I learned that using the "Examiner" there is a menu where a setting can be changed from "external amplifier" to "internal speakers" and this would solve my problem (likely anyway).

The guys at Thames Croydon came back to me saying that the setting I was referring to either doesn't exist or it can't be changed.

Does anyone know how to access this menu without using an Examiner?

Does anyone know a technician with an Examiner where I can drive to in order to change this setting? I can drive pretty much anywhere as I drive professionally all over the country.

Your input will be much appreciated.

RT3 is the mono screen version and I think the software is 5.4 if this helps.

Thank you.

Just for the record, yesterday I upgraded the RT3 software from 5.4 to 5.5 and it did make a big difference. I can control (and hear) the bass and treble and I can now hear the bass. Sound is still not fantastic but... the RT3 is probably not a Hi-Fi champion anyway.
Got the software from EV2 Forum, in case anyone has the same problem and want it sorted...
:)

Yes Stu, but unfortunately not crystal clear... There was a perception that the Examiner changing menus would be the solution.

I find this problem to be fairly important as I was starting to consider going out and buying a car stereo to substitute the RT3. But now the problem is solved I have changed my mind and the RT3 fits the purpose.

Here's an email that I have received from Magnetti Marelli themselves that also helped me on my quest:

Dear Mr Duarte,

EXAMINER tool has an option, located in "Active diagnosys" à "Manual Configuration" of RT3/CONNECT Marelli/PSA menu, in which is possible to change the ampli parameter as WITH or WITHOUT EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER.

Then you can try to change this setting with Examiner at your dealer and check if it improves your RT3 sound quality.

Anyway, I think this issue could also depend on the system software.

For this purpose I need to know which is the current software version (Software version and CD number) loaded in your RT3.

You can reach this information with a long pressure of MENU pushbutton, at DIAGNOSTIC RADIOTELEPHONE / SYSTEM DESCRIPTION items.

Let me know something.

Best Regards,

Felice Abramo
