Hi super unleaded
I always get my power for the strobe from the + on the coil, is this not correct?
I get it from the alternator terminal; your method probably safer; extra battery maybe a bit of a faff but safer still.

Alternator will be charging at 13.5v maybe so a battery sitting on the floor at 12v is better-ish
Good point to both of you....but works for me.
Ok that should eliminate the fuel. Get a can of brake or carb cleaner and spray it around the carb mounting and see if there is a change. If ther is you have an induction leak if not it isn’t . Also if you pull the choke does it get better or worse ? If it’s better you have dirt in the carb check the jets.

Thank you "FR85" for those few kind words---I do occasionally drop a bollock, which people are quick to (quite correctly) point out to me. I try and do my homework prior to putting something down "on paper", especially if "those words" are going to be taken as "what to do" advice
Many thanks again all, apologies for the late reply. The information given has been invaluable and along with a replacement carburettor from Toshi 975 happy to say the 500F has had a few show outings and is running well. Barry
