Hi all i will have a mk2 in the next couple of days and was jsut wondering if someone could give me a rough price on installing a blaupunkt 10 CD changer. the 10 cds are separate from the head unit and would need to be done by an auto-electrician as i am a n00b when it comes to electrics. the blaupunkt is currently in my dads car, will try and get a model number when he gets home.

Just rough prices would be appreciated as i need to know whether it'll be worthwhile doing or not.

P.S the 10 Cd unit is placed under the passenger seat of his car

I would just do it yourself. I would start by taking out the HU and pluging the wires in to check that it works. The wires will be obvious especially if you look before you take it out of your dads car.
Then all you have to do is unclip the side sill and run the cables to the boot plug it in and mount it using the bracket on the back of the seat.
It should be very simple. An auto sparky would charge you between about £40-£60, but that is just a guess. I personally wouldnt want to charge much less than that if it was my lively hood. Take into consideration that halfords will charge like £30 to change a HU which can be done in less than 30 seconds if all go's well.

When is the next RR day as that is in enfield i think so i could do come along and give you if you wanted.

erm not sure about the next RR day mate, never been to one before...
thanks for the advice mate i have changed head units before but i know that they are really simple to do. If I could make it to the RR day your help would be appreciated but it depends if i can make it too. If not, I would be happy to pay an auto-electrician £40-60 to fit it, much safer nad more reliable than me doing it

if you can change a head unit then doing the cd changer would be easy, its just as simple

just a quick update, my dad has decided to keep his changer so i brought a CDX 616 to fit into my CDX-GT300.

just got the leads but i havent got a mounting bracket, any ideas as to how i could mount it properly as i cant find one on the internet

Velcro should do the job. Or does it have screw holes in the bottom for the standard mounting bracket that you could make some feet out of metal and screw it to the back seat.
Also not everybody knows every product number so links to what you are talking about are often useful. (y)

thanks for the link mate, it certainly seems compatible have emailed before buying. then it'll be a case of buying some velcro and wiring it up but probably wont be for a while unless its delivered at the weekend

When you get velcro buy some carpet tape to stick on the back of it as i find that the holding glue on velcro is always worse than the velcro.

dad has some capet tape so it'll be ok thanks for the advice mate appreciate it

hi there just had a look around the car and found where the wire will pop out into the bott but cant see where it feed in through the drivers footwell. tried taking the carpet up (got some holes for easy removal) but it seems that the boot open lever by the seat stops me from lifting the carpet up anymore

found a bundle of wires that appear to go under the seat, multicolours mainly pink, blue and orange do you know what these could be for?

dont worry mate my fault, i removed the hard sill and it has all become apparent sorry for any confusion.

however i will be looking through the manual to see what these wires are for, maybe side airbags

ok mate just gonna look in the manual see hwether my car does have side airbags or not lol. anyways i've found the hole to push it through do you think i'll need that electricians tool or not?

If i remember rightly once you have the side sill off you can squeeze the wires through the seat belt bar and then push it under the trim and come out near the rear seats.
