Hi, could someone with factory/Dealer fit roof rails be as kind as to take and post some close ups shots specifically showing how they sit at the fixing points in relation to the plastic strips that run the length of the roof underneath.

I have managed to get a couple of rails but the seller has not put the strips in (they should have done and am chasing). Just want to see what the difference is between the two versions. The standard one has rectangular plates that clip out, but even without these, the bars appear to sit on top on the strips at the fixing points.

Thanks for any assistance

This is mine. It has the glass "skydome"(!) roof, which may make a difference. It's also mucky, and the plastic finish looks awful on camera! It's been pulled off and refitted a few times, and the way it goes together is horrible - it's basically friction clips on the trim, then the roof rails squeeze it on. Anyway, here goes...

Doofer, thats exactly what I wanted - top man, the brownie has served you well! (y)

I am chasing up for the correct strips, but when I offered up one of the rails with the rectangular plates out from my existing ones, it sat just like yours, so in the worst case I think they will suffice.

I need to get some different bolts as mine too has the glass roof and the one it came from didn't - there is a couple of mils difference in the length ("with roof" ones are shorter).

Also going to refurb the rails and the covers - not sure whether to just paint or get them plated/sprayed and go for the complete chrome look to match the mirrors/nose and door handles :D :D

 I'll then need the alloys polishing, fit some "spinners", start wearing my baseball cap back-to-front....... :D

Thanks again Sir.

Mine's 100% original and genuine, and it's crap!

The roof rails press the trim down and it ends up all wavy and horrible.

They're still good auto-jewellery though. Chrome would looking banging man, er or something like that.

The original alloy-look coating on the plastic hasn't lasted well. Chrome might be even worse. Black plastic coating?

How much were they?

Where do you live Dave?

I'm wondering whether I'm bothered about keeping mine.
