I'm wondering why the rails aren't manufactured in such a way so that they can be used as crossbars?
With my rails installed, the internal distance across the body is 42"
The length of rail showing between front & rear mount is... 42".
Why not design them so the lower half of the mount is fixed & the top half can swivel?
Simply unclip the rail from one mount & swivel through 90deg to clip into it's opposite partner (which will be free once you've unclipped the rail to swivel across).
